Position Overview:
SYTE Corporation is seeking a dedicated and experienced Quality Control/Site Safety Officer to join our team for a critical infrastructure project at Gary Airport, Gary, IN. The ideal candidate will oversee the quality control and safety aspects of the construction, ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, and enforce SYTE Corporation's safety policies and procedures.
Project Description:
The project focuses on the installation of approximately 2,200 linear feet (LF) of an 8-inch gravity sewer that will flow to a proposed lift station along Chicago Avenue on airport-owned property. It also includes the installation of approximately 600 LF of 1.25-inch pressure sewer from the proposed lift station to the existing 10-inch force main located along Airport Road. The plan is to have the project completed this year.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities:
1. Quality Control Management:
- Develop, implement, and maintain project-specific quality control plans.
- Inspect and monitor construction activities to ensure adherence to project specifications, engineering standards, and compliance requirements.
- Conduct regular three-phase site inspections and audits to verify workmanship quality and material standards.
- Manage and document quality control activities including testing, inspections, and compliance reviews.
- Review and approve submittals, RFIs, and change orders related to quality control.
- Oversee and coordinate preparatory meetings to ensure all quality control measures are understood and followed.
2. Site Safety Management:
- Implement and enforce the site-specific safety plan.
- Conduct daily site safety inspections and risk assessments.
- Identify potential safety hazards and ensure corrective actions are taken promptly.
- Organize and conduct safety training and orientation sessions for site personnel.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses, and generate detailed reports with recommendations for preventive measures.
- Ensure compliance with USACE, OSHA, local, state, and federal safety regulations.
3. Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain comprehensive records of quality and safety activities, inspections, and incidents.
- Prepare and submit quality and safety reports to project management and relevant authorities.
- Ensure all project documentation is complete, accurate, and filed appropriately.
4. Collaborate with Project Teams:
- Work closely with project managers, engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders.
- Participate in project meetings to provide updates and discuss quality control and safety issues.
- Recommend and implement improvements for quality and safety processes based on site observations and outcomes.
5. Continuous Improvement:
- Monitor evolving standards, technologies, and best practices in quality control and safety.
- Provide recommendations for process improvements to enhance quality and safety performance.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Safety Management, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in construction quality control and site safety.
- Previous experience with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) projects is mandatory.
- Experience with the Resident Management System (RMS).
- Proven experience conducting quality control inspections, preparatory meetings, and managing electronic paperwork.
- Knowledge of construction practices, materials, and standards.
- Familiarity with safety regulations, codes, and guidelines, including OSHA standards.- Certification in quality assurance/control (Construction Quality Management for Contractors (CQM-C), CQIA, CQA) and safety management (OSHA 30, CSP) is highly desirable.
- Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and problem-solving capabilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite and familiarity with project management software.
