Job Summary of the Production Manager: The Production Manager will direct and coordinate activities of the production department(s) in processing materials or manufacturing products in industrial organization. The production manager identifies gaps in targets and utilizes continuous improvement tools to close all gaps to meet or exceed all production targets without compromising safety, quality, or cost.
Job Responsibilities of the Production Manager:
- Review production orders or schedules to ascertain product dates such as types, quantities, and specifications of products and scheduled delivery dates in order to plan department operations.
- Plan production operations, establishing priorities and sequences for manufacturing products.
- Prepare operational schedules and coordinate manufacturing activities to ensure production and quality of products meet specifications.
- Reviews production and operating reports and resolves operational, and manufacturing problems to ensure minimum costs and prevent operational delays.
- Ensures the Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost targets are met and implement improvements where gaps are identified.
- Provide daily and/or weekly metrics reports.
- Inspect machines and equipment to ensure specific operational performance and optimum utilization.
- Develop or revise standard operational and working practices and observe workers to ensure compliance with standards.
- Resolve worker grievances or submit unsettled grievances to HR or Plant Mgr. for action.
- Complie, store, and retrieve production data.
- Communicate shop floor order status to customer service to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Perform all work in a safety-conscious manner. Be aware of dangers and take all appropriate counter measures to protect yourself and others around you.
- Responsible for maintaining a clean and safe work area consistent with the Company’s housekeeping policies.
- Direct supervision/management of all production or departmental personnel as assigned.
Requirements
- A minimum of a 2-year degree in a business, manufacturing, or technical field is required 4 year preferred.
- 5 - 7 years direct experience in a machine shop having effectively performed work on similar equipment/products.
- Must have strong continuous improvement skills and abilities (Lean Mfg, Bottleneck Mgmt, VSM or similar)
- Ability to communicate effectively, verbally, written, and presentation skills are necessary.
- Knowledge of manufacturing procedures is essential.
- Must possess leadership characteristics.
- Must be proficient in ERP systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and email.
- Must interact professionally and successfully with all levels of the organization.
- Time management skills and the ability to navigate a high-paced environment are essential.
