People Infusion has an immediate opening for an experienced Sr Mechanical Design Engineer in our Baton Rouge office. As a Sr Mechanical Design Engineer you will be responsible for design and specification for fixed equipment [heat exchangers and pressure vessels, etc.], rotating equipment [compressors, pumps, etc.] and machinery packages [thermal oxidizers, pneumatic conveying systems, extruder/pelletizers, and other types of packaged equipment].
Your Role With The Company:
- This position reports directly to the Global Mechanical Engineering Manager.
- Promote a team environment of mutual respect with open communication, celebration of success and provide frequent positive reinforcement.
- Prepare engineering deliverables in accordance with Company Management System, current legislation, project requirements and international standards. Check deliverables produced by others.
- Identify any project scope growth and correctly document it and apply the project procedures for cost and time reimbursement. Commercial awareness of the impact of changes in scope, budget and schedule overruns.
- Manage scope, budgets and schedules as required.
- Identify project risk and address risk mitigation measures.
- Identify, communicate, and implement cost reduction and schedule improvement opportunities.
- Seek to improve project and team efficiency so as to improve upon budget and schedule while retaining technical quality and safety.
- Provide technical information in support of the project team.
- Comply with the Company Management System and QHSE requirements
- Implement assigned engineering work within the budget and project timescale.
- Attend technical design/project reviews to ensure compliance with customers’ needs and QHSE requirements.
- Ability to work as part of a group and on individual tasks within a larger team. Have the ability to lead large teams of multi-skilled engineers.
- Identify and present training and learning opportunities (both individual and departmental) for consideration.
- Understand customer needs and ensure that they are being satisfied.
- Active communication with all customers to promote clear understanding.
- Develop good customer relationships (internal and external).
- The role will interface with other internal engineering disciplines as well as external project team members such as the client, fabricator and site contractor representatives.
- Provide mentorship to younger/junior engineers within the organization.
- Provide input into the selection and recruitment of new staff to meet the business needs.
Background Profile:
- Bachelor’s Degree Mechanical Engineering is required.
- PE License Required in Texas and Louisiana preferred
- 8 -15 years of related experience in engineering design of oil & gas, petrochemical or plastics manufacturing facility mechanical equipment.
- General understanding of the entire cradle to grave workflow for an EPC Project, interdepartmental dependencies, recognition of the importance of TIC rather than individual constituents that make up the whole.
- Must be capable of working a part of a close-knit small core team as well as being self-reliant with the confidence to make decisions acting on their own initiative.
- Organized with the ability to support multiple concurrent projects.
- Accountable, confident, bright, articulate, innovative, highly motivated, and self-starter with a high energy level that performs with the highest integrity.
- Knowledge and understanding of industry codes, product safety standards, regulations, etc.
- Comfortable with occasional opportunities for international travel.
- US Citizen or US Permanent Resident status
Preferred Skills
- 10+ years of experience in various Mechanical engineering, operations or other technical roles with at least 5 years of experience in a multidisciplinary petrochemical design environment.
- ASME Section VIII, Division 2 High Pressure Experience Preferred
- Knowledge of ASME VIII Division 3 and other codes / regulations preferred not essential (AD Mekblatt, EN13445, EU PED etc)
- Knowledge of FEA analysis and fitness for service assessments such as API 579 would be of interest but not essential
- Experience with other Machinery/packages such as Thermal oxidizers, Pneumatic conveying systems, Extruder/pelletizers, and other types of packaged equipment would also be of interest (but is not mandatory).
- Material selection knowledge and familiarity with international codes for steel types used in the petrochemical sector required, familiarity with high strength steels preferred.
- Knowledge of thermal rating for heat exchangers would be of interest but not essential.
