ABOUT THE GBC AND THE ROLE
The Greater Baltimore Committee (GBC) is the leading voice for the private sector in the Baltimore region on equitable economic growth and civic issues. With the merger of the GBC and the Economic Alliance of Greater Baltimore, the organization is advancing a vibrant, future-ready Greater Baltimore region. The GBC Team—composed of experts in public policy, research, economic development, and communications— supports more than 400 members to align the region’s resources to equitably increase opportunity and deliver a thriving economic environment for the region’s diverse communities.
ORGANIZATION
The GBC’s staff structure includes five teams, with leads who report directly to the CEO.
Operations:
- Fiscal, operational, and HR leadership for organization.
- Support CEO, Board to establish corporate governance and execution of mission.
Policy and Research:
- Shape and publish public policy, data-driven research, and bold strategies to support the region’s vitality and economic growth.
- Proactively engage and advocate with elected officials, partners, stakeholders to advance GBC’s agenda.
Marketing & Communications:
- Shape GBC’s message and communications strategy. Grow and modernize our audience, improving how we interact with members, stakeholders, and amplify civic progress in Baltimore.
- Execute the regional marketing and balance perspective on Greater Baltimore as a place to invest and expand.
- Manage and solidify support for GBC’s events and engagement.
Partnerships
- Develop and establish GBC’s new membership and engagement model.
- Develop and orient GBC’s committee and member collaborations toward high-value impact.
- Establish and manage partnerships with local, state, and national peers to advance the Greater Baltimore region.
Economic Investment
- Support the Baltimore Region's federal Tech Hub designation and the Regional Innovation Office.
- Lead regional business retention, expansion, and retention efforts.
- Work with public and private partners to support investment in regionally significant activity centers and projects.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Communications Manager will be a key member of the GBC’s Communications Department and lead the organization’s efforts to:
- Promote the organization’s engagements and activities across our owned communications channels (social media, website, and email newsletters)
- Ensure consistency and impact in brand messaging and visual identity through the design and development of high-quality presentation decks and collateral.
- Develop and implement digital marketing strategies (owned, earned, and paid) to drive qualified traffic, engagement, and memberships from target audiences.
- Analyze our communications channels and own the process for increasing the reach and penetration of our content.
- Conduct market research to understand our target audience, create representative personas, and build campaigns and promotions aimed at this group of potential members.
- Oversee the organization’s visual storytelling strategy from nuts-to-bolts by handling photography, videography, and graphic design duties.
- Produce and edit high-quality photo and video content for our social platforms, and/or manage photo and video production vendors we contract with for content.
- Provide audio-visual and technical support for large executive virtual and hybrid events.
- Lead the GBC’s website development and content marketing.
- Lead the GBC’s email marketing and campaigns, including newsletters.
- Prepare and coordinate presentations, documents, and other supporting materials for executive leadership.
Requirements
- Proven experience in digital marketing leadership with a clear track record of audience growth
- Capacity for providing needed technical support for large executive virtual and hybrid meetings.
- Strong knowledge of digital marketing channels, including email marketing. Knowledge and proven experience of owned, earned, and paid marketing campaigns.
- Strong knowledge of video production workflows and capacity
- Comfort with design, social media, and digital marketing automation tools
- Ability to think creatively and strategically.
- Proficient graphic design, video/photo editing, and visual storytelling ability.
- Strong writing, copyediting and proofreading skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- A deep passion and/or interest in policy and regional economic development
