This position is for the 2024-25 school year and begins in August, 2024.
Indian Creek School is an independent, co-ed day school in which 560 students age 3 to Grade 12 partner with innovative teachers in an outstanding educational program. Located on a beautiful, 114-acre campus in Crownsville, Maryland (just north of Annapolis), ICS students are nurtured and known as individuals while being challenged to discover their passions, purpose, and potential. This position is a full-time, 10-month position with occasional summer responsibilities, reporting to the Upper School Principal.
Responsibilities:
- Teach four sections of Upper School (Grades 9-12) History. This could include courses in the History or Interdisciplinary departments, including ICS's signature Grade 9 required interdisciplinary course: "The History of our World".
- Use a variety of pedagogical approaches, assessments, and strategies to drive instruction in Upper School History classes.
- Provide feedback on student assignments in a timely and constructive manner.
- Maintain an online course page on the School’s LMS aligned with academic standards and expectations.
- Collaborate with History colleagues committed to building reading, writing, analytical, and communication skills while centering diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Develop and deliver interdisciplinary learning experiences.
- Use a variety of assessments, such as student portfolios and project-based learning, to measure student understanding and drive instruction.
- Serve as an academic advisor to a group of students.
- Work with the Upper School principal and the Upper School team to ensure a positive and engaging Upper School experience for students.
- Maintain positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
- Attend all divisional, departmental, and school faculty meetings, including professional development days.
- Other duties as assigned by the Upper School Principal.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree (Master’s preferred)
- Demonstrated experience in History and Upper School education.
- Ability to teach a variety of courses within the History department

- Proficiency in technology
- Federal and State Background Check clearance and MSDE Employment History review
