The Business Operations Intern is responsible for supporting the Strategic Investment and Business Operation Team’s initiatives focused on improving the business and digital operations of the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative. They are principally responsible for gathering and processing data to produce insights related to MassTech investments supporting economic development in the Commonwealth. This position is an incredible opportunity to join a small, dynamic, high-powered operations team with cross-divisional responsibility and senior-level visibility driving impact across the technology and innovation economy in Massachusetts.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Selected Projects and Tasks
- Conduct projects to optimize MassTech's database systems, including Airtable and other platforms, to identify opportunities for improvement, and assist efforts to maintain, update, and digitize its investment recipient directory housed in Airtable database software.
- In coordination with the Business Operations team, collaborate with stakeholders to plan and execute database projects, to include mapping semi-structured spatial data onto map layers for geographic presentation and analysis.
- Interface Development: Work closely with users to understand their needs and develop intuitive front-end interfaces for accessing and visualizing database information. User-facing front end may be within Airtable’s Interfaces or external as needed.
- Integration Management: under the supervision of the Business Operations team, coordinate and execute the integration of various front-end systems data collection tools with database platforms, ensuring seamless data flow and interoperability. Examples include Qualtrics data intake linking with Airtable as a database.
- System Monitoring: in coordination with the Business Operations team, assist implementation efforts to monitor and track database performance, security, and compliance with organizational standards.
- User Training and Support: as needed and directed by the Business Operations team, provide training and support to users on database-related tools and processes, addressing inquiries and resolving issues in a timely manner. Creation of lightweight, scalable resources such as screen recordings.
- Documentation: Create and maintain documentation of database configurations, processes, and best practices to facilitate knowledge sharing and training.
Operational
- Attend meetings with Strategic Investment and Business Operations staff on a regular basis.
- Interact with stakeholders across the organization to collect data requirements, update on status of projects, and provide guidance on data processes.
Additional
- Develop knowledge of the Massachusetts economic development landscape, including general industry trends and developments, as relevant to the nature and scope of data processes.
- Collaborate with colleagues to identify issues, trends and opportunities to promote the technology ecosystem in Massachusetts.
- Perform additional tasks that may be assigned from time to time by Strategic Investment and Business Operations team members.
- On occasion, attend external meetings, events, or other engagements with industry or academic partners as applicable.
** This position may work out of our Boston, MA or Westborough, MA office. **
** PLEASE NOTE: THIS POSITION REQUIRES CANDIDATES TO BE ABLE TO WORK IN EITHER WESTBOROUGH OR BOSTON MASSACHUSETTS AT LEAST TWO DAYS PER WEEK. THIS IS NOT A FULL-TIME REMOTE POSITION. **
Requirements
Education
• Working towards a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Business Administration, Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, public policy or related field or equivalent work experience.
Preferred Experience/Background
• Experience in project management and coordination, particularly in database migration and integration projects.
• Familiarity with database platforms such as Airtable, as well as other data collection and management tools.
• Familiarity with scripting data connectors and APIs between applications and databases.
• Strong understanding of business processes and requirements gathering techniques.
• Experience with data analysis and visualization tools is a plus.

• Attention to detail and a keen focus on producing accurate, high-quality work.
• Knowledge and experience with databases and data analysis tools such as Airtable, SQL, PowerBi, Tableau, or other tools.
