Share your love of cooking and food with children this summer! Camp Kaleidoscope, the JCC arts day camp in Newton, has a position for a creative, enthusiastic Cooking teacher who can make cooking and food science fun. Activities may include sweet and savory food preparation, snack making, baking, and more. Teach up to five daily classes.
Camp Kaleidoscope draws creative youth interested in the arts, science, and the outdoors. Supportive, experienced counselors and teachers guide campers as they develop and build self-confidence. The camp is fast-paced, nurturing, and supportive, as campers and staff develop lifelong friendships.
Schedule
June 17 through August 16, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm, Mondays through Fridays, Full-time seasonal
Responsibilities
- Curriculum development and planning
- Purchasing and managing supplies within a budget
- Creating a fun/joyful dynamic, inclusive of campers with allergies and food sensitivities
- Teaching up to 5 daily classes
- Supervising preparation and cleanup
- Working in partnership with peers and Camp Leadership to provide a happy, safe, and memorable summer for the children
- Contribute, as needed, to camp special events and initiatives
Requirements
College degree or significant experience in food and cooking
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted at the JCC’s discretion to meet minimum criteria.

- Experience with children
- Excellent classroom management skills
- Flexibility in plans and a positive attitude
- Enjoy working with children and a strong desire to make a difference every day
- Ability to multitask and to manage situations effectively and diplomatically
- Ability and commitment to build strong relationships with campers, parents, co-workers, and camp leadership
