SUMMARY OF THE POSITION
The Director of Information Technology plans, implements, and maintains the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative’s information technology infrastructure and systems. Responsibilities include understanding the existing IT infrastructure, recommending, and implementing new or upgraded technologies to meet the needs of the MassTech divisions and activities as well as improving overall security posture. The Director of Information technology will also oversee the facility manager and general facility management of the MassTech offices.
INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY RESPONSIBILITIES
The IT Director is responsible for all aspects of Information Technology at MassTech and for the direction of the IT staff. Primary focus shall be fulfilling the goal of ensuring IT systems are effective, secure, and functioning within the limits of budget, time, and operational guidelines. The Director will supervise a team of IT professionals, manage the company’s technology operations, and implement new IT systems and policies. The Director will:
• Oversee all technology operations including computer and information systems, security, communication systems, and IT staff.
• Identify the need for upgrades, configurations, new systems, and forecast emerging trends. Establish a comprehensive multiyear plan to address IT infrastructure upgrades and maintenance.
• Evaluate and update IT policies and systems to ensure security, support the mission and strategies of the organizations as set by upper management, and to meet all federal and state requirements.
• Collaborate with all divisions to determine their technology needs and plan to meet those requirements.
• Organize, procure, and oversee installation of, or maintenance of, secure, efficient, and cost-effective technological equipment and software.
• Inspect the use of technological equipment and software to ensure functionality and efficiency and oversee the organization's help desk end user support and network monitoring systems to ensure a high level of responsiveness and performance.
• Stay up to date on security risks and ensure corporate security through policies, software, training, and other methods deemed necessary for best practices and notify upper management of any security incidents or vulnerabilities.
• Engage stakeholders to promote cyber security polices and programs.
• Manage IT staff and provide guidance, cross training and support and as needed oversee IT consultants hired to supplement staff capacity or project-based work.
• Develop and update training documents for end users and organize related training.
• Develop, manage, and track the IT department's annual budget and expenditure with support from the finance team.
• Build relationships with vendors and create cost-efficient contracts for services, software, and hardware.
FACILTIES RESPONSIBILITIES:
The IT Director will be responsible for supervising the Facility Manager and oversight of facilities functions including maintenance and safety procedures, vendor and contractor selection and management, preparing facilities budgets and monitoring expenditures, coordinating remodeling projects, space planning, routine maintenance, responding to emergencies, security, and monitoring leases. The Director’s oversight of the facilities function will minimize disruptions to overall business operations, improve working conditions, and create a safe and comfortable environment.
• Manage Facilities staff and ensure that MassTech’s campus, facilities and offices are appropriately maintained to provide a safe environment for staff and visitors.
• Coordinate with the Legal team related to lease arrangements for tenants on MTC property and lease arrangements for off-campus MTC offices. In coordination with executive management and the Facility Manager, establish a long-range plan for usage and maintenance of the MassTech Westborough campus.
• Manage and organize the space planning process for the campus.
• Support the Facility Manager in the following:
• Maintaining a safe and comfortable office environment for employees and visitors and coordinating office assignments.
• Managing MassTech’s facility lease, including the ICFF building lease to Kopin and MassTech’s space lease for the Boston office.
• Decision-making on project priorities, procurements, vendor management, tenant, and abutter relationship management, and building and campus security.
• Establish goals and timelines for related projects.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in a technical field such as management information systems, computer science, or a related field.
Experience in the following:
• Customer-focused IT support
• Management of an IT department
• Ability to lead and teach others
• Up-to-date knowledge of latest IT developments
• Ability to explain highly technical concepts in simple terms
• Knowledge of IT cybersecurity practices
• Technical, supervisory, and project management
• Business operations and or Facilities management
• Leading and inspiring a team
