Mass Teacher Resources (MTR), a 4-year-old nonprofit organization serving the greater Boston area, seeks an entrepreneurial Executive Director to help build and scale its operations, presence, and visibility.
MTR’s mission is to make a meaningful, tangible, and direct impact on teachers in economically disadvantaged communities in the greater Boston area by providing the resources they need to create a welcoming, inclusive, and safe learning environment for their students.MTR aims to operate a warehouse and retail store where teachers from Title 1 elementary schools (K-5th grade) can easily shop at no charge and pick up supplies and resources for their classrooms. The organization procures supplies through donations, school supply drives, corporate donors, and other reuse markets.
This position is a unique opportunity for the right individual to oversee all aspects of a non-profit from near inception to pilot to scale and make a real difference for teachers and students.
The Executive Director will report to the visionary founder, a successful entrepreneur, and mentor, who will provide strategic oversight and direction to ensure the success of the ED and MTR. Please also note that MTR is a fiscally sponsored organization of Third Sector New England, Inc. (TSNE). The ED will be an employee of TSNE.
This is a full-time role (37.5 hours/week). The schedule may vary based on events, some weekend availability, and some evenings. With some local travel in the Greater Boston area.
Responsibilities
Strategic
- Provide leadership to the organization, setting strategic, measurable goals and objectives aligned with the mission and vision of the organization
- Identify priorities and ensure that progress toward all organizational goals is on track
- Create and develop the foundation for a warehouse operation with inbound and outbound material flows
Implementation
- Manage all aspects of the day-to-day materials, volunteer, and fundraising operations
- Network and build strategic relationships for successful fundraising and the organization’s financial sustainability
- Develop and maintain relationships with media outlets and reporters to secure press coverage and promote the organization’s activities
The Ideal Candidate
We are seeking a creative, mission-driven, self-starter who is passionate about the goals of MTR and possesses both the administrative and interpersonal skills to advance MTR’s success.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s (preferred) degree in a relevant field (e.g., nonprofit management, business administration as well as social work or education)
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in nonprofit management or a related field
- Demonstrated experience, interest, and success in fundraising and development
- Knowledge of nonprofit financial management and budgeting
- Ability to work collaboratively with multiple constituencies: staff, volunteers, board directors, donors, sponsors, and other stakeholders
- An action-oriented, entrepreneurial approach to problem-solving
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- There may be some physical demands and responsibilities
- An ability to have fun while working hard
- A healthy sense of humor (it never hurts)
Location: Work will be performed between our warehouse (to be identified) and your home office. This position will require you to be on-site as requested.
Schedule: This position is full-time at 37.5 hours per week and hours are flexible within reason. The schedule may vary based on events, some weekend availability, and some evenings. With some local travel in the Greater Boston area.
