Full Job Description
Mental Health Association is hiring immediately for a Fiscal Manager. The Fiscal Manager oversee daily accounting activities and perform accounting duties to maintain and update organization accounting records. Duties include: supervision of fiscal staff, reviewing agency payables and receivables, preparing monthly financial statements, audit schedules, filing reports with state and federal agencies, reviewing bank reconciliations and other similar duties primarily to support the financial systems of the organization.
Essential Position Functions
1. Hire and supervise fiscal department employees.
2. Evaluate, assess and monitor performance of direct reports. Assign and adjust work load in a manner that capitalizes upon individual professional strengths while monitoring internal control procedures. Conduct performance reviews and develop appropriate training and performance plans. Foster on-going staff development to ensure maximum transferability of skill between functions as appropriate.
3. Confer with Vice President of Finance and Human Resources regarding the resolution of personnel related matters. Confer or participate in employee corrective action process and keep Vice President of Finance apprised of significant developments. Mediate conflicts within department.
4. Train fiscal department employees on job functions, use of accounting software and other technology as needed.
5. Prepare monthly billings to various agencies.
6. Oversee payroll processing and ensure labor distribution accounting is accurate for input into the accounting records.
7. Review/audit prepared monthly billings to various agencies.
8. Review/audit prepared monthly and year end general ledger account reconciliations ensuring timely resolution of reconciling items.
9. Review/audit vendor invoices and payments.
10. Prepare financial statements and reconcile general ledger accounts.
11. Reconcile accounts and prepare journal entries and schedules for monthly closings and year end audits.
12. Perform account analysis as needed.
13. Serve as back up for payroll and accounts payable functions as needed.
14. Promote and integrate agency mission, values, philosophy and principles.
15. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Requirements
- Bachelors’ Degree in accounting or related field with at least two years of experience or six years direct work experience.
- Also, previous supervisory experience required.
- Must have knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and procedures for Massachusetts non-profit agencies.
- Must have skills to make and verify computations with accuracy, to compile statistical data and prepare routine reports and to work under time constraints.
- Strong organizational, communication and computer skills required.
- Software skills should include Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Peachtree and Blackbaud software experience is preferred.
- Duties require verbal communication abilities, visual acuity to written and computer screen data, attention to detail and manual coordination and dexterity in the operation of office equipment.
