Are you an experienced Lighting Technician looking for a fun and creative summer job? Join our team at Camp Kaleidoscope as a part-time Lighting Technician! As a Lighting Technician, you will be responsible for setting up and operating lighting systems for performances, events, and activities throughout the summer. Camp Kaleidoscope is a vibrant and creative day camp located in Newton, Massachusetts. Our campers are excited about music, arts, science, and the outdoors, and we are looking for a talented Lighting Technician who can help create memorable experiences for them.
The starting salary for this position is $22.00 per hour. The salary offered will ultimately be determined by the scope of the position, the candidate’s relevant experience, and internal equity. This is a part-time position of +/- 20 hours per week. The full camp season is June 17 - August 16. The schedule for the season is as follows:
- July 10, 4 pm – 8 pm cue-to-cue, programming lights
- July 15, 18, 9 am – 1 pm rehearsals and adjustments
- July 18, 5 pm – 9 pm (show night) operating light booth
- August 7, 4 pm – 8 pm cue-to-cue, programming lights
- August 12, 15, 9 am – 1 pm rehearsals and adjustments
- August 15, 5 pm – 9 pm (show night)
Responsibilities:
- Produce lighting design and operation for two fully staged musical theater productions each summer, one every four weeks.
- Modify lighting and cues as needed.
- Work under the direction of the Theater Director and collaborate closely with the camp theater production staff/team.
- Display flexibility and a positive attitude throughout the production process.

Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Lighting Design, Technical Theater, or related field, and 2+ years’ experience in lighting design and operation. Must be able to work collaboratively and efficiently.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted at the JCC’s discretion to meet minimum criteria.
Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge and familiarity with the needs of families with young children, with a creative ability to translate ideas, feedback, and direction into costumes and props for campers.
- Outstanding project management skills from design to implementation, managing deadlines with great attention to detail and maintaining high-quality standards.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Ability to multitask and manage situations effectively and diplomatically; ability to adapt to evolving needs and circumstances.
- Must be a self-starter who takes the initiative.
- Superb interpersonal and active listening skills
- Works well independently and with others, building/sustaining collaborative working relationships.
- Ability to build strong relationships with a variety of stakeholders.
Physical Requirements: Able to work well in a busy, dynamic, and sometimes noisy environment involving multiple tasks and priorities. Able to lift and carry objects weighing 30-40 pounds (lighting equipment, children’s backpacks, etc.). Able to stand for long periods of time and work at heights using ladders or other equipment.
