WHO WE ARE
Halo Braid is a mission-driven startup creating the first automated hair braiding robot. By reducing braiding time from hours to minutes, we empower stylists to triple their business and address the 8 billion hours spent braiding hair each year. Our VC-backed, serial entrepreneur team brings experience from MIT, Harvard, Apple, Rivian, and Amazon Robotics.
ABOUT THE ROLE
As a Product Design Engineer, you will work closely with a small, highly collaborative team to create mechanical solutions and bring products to market. You’re motivated, creative, a strong problem solver, and passionate. You’re customer driven - you want to build things real people want. This is a unique opportunity to launch new innovative products and create massive impact in an overlooked industry.
You’ll develop key aspects of our automated hair braider and drive product design architecture to closure. Your inputs will directly shape the foundation of our automated hair braider and inform the design direction of future Halo products. This role will collaborate with the founding team, engineers and designers to build the product.

Requirements
IDEALLY YOU HAVE
- 5+ years professional experience with 3D CAD (SolidWorks preferred). GD&T a plus
- Rapid prototyping and manufacturing methods (3D printing, CNC machining, laser cutting)
- Design intelligence: mechanical intuition, creative problem solving, and attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills: an ability to clearly convey design ideas and brainstorm
- Crafted and tested proof-of-concept models and prototypes in the R&D stage
- Experience with design for manufacturing (DFM) & mass manufacturing methods
BONUS IF YOU HAVE
- Experience with consumer electronics, robotics, or hair styling tools
- Technical expertise with mechatronics components such as sensors, motors, electromagnets
- Experience with gear design and linkages, and moving mechanisms
- Experience with design optimization using FEA/CFD simulation
- Worked with Industrial Design to incorporate user needs, ergonomics, and aesthetics
