Description
We are looking for a Recipe Developer to join our mission-driven team. As an integral part of a Culinary department, you will join forces with the culinary team and the culinary director, (to whom you will also report) in our continued effort to inspire people to eat more plants!
The Recipe Developer is expected to manage end-to-end culinary recipe development from ideation through initial editorial steps, within menu timelines, operational guidelines, and nutrition and budget goals. Accuracy, attention to detail, and strong organizational skills are a must in order to manage multiple priorities and meet time-sensitive deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
This role is a unique opportunity to participate in cutting edge, plant-based recipe formulation, and the day to day operations of an active food company. The ideal candidate is obsessed with food, highly creative, and enjoys collaborating.

Location: Purple Carrot HQ is in Needham, MA and prefers local candidates to work onsite 5 days a week
On the plate:
- Develop new recipes, on a weekly basis maintaining brand attributes, product fit, cost, operational, and nutritional targets.
- Continual testing and optimization of current Purple Carrot recipes to improve customer experience, with a focus on ease, nutrition, and budget.
- Accurately formulate, test, and document all recipes in accordance with procedures and requirements established by the Culinary team.
- Evaluate all recipes through recipe development process and team tastings, using recipe data as the foundation for all development.
- Contribute innovative and trend-setting recipe ideas through continual research and concept generation.
- Support photoshoot prep and execution as needed in partnership with the Creative team.
- Work cross functionally with procurement, operations, and creative teams on implementation of new ingredients, menu timelines, and product launches.
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment by following industry best practices and team policies.
Main Ingredients for the Role
- 5+ years experience as chef, or recipe developer.
- Test kitchen experience is a plus.
- Strong problem solving skills and self motivated; able to independently manage workload and time management.
- Culinary degree and/or related professional cooking experience.
- High degree of flexibility, positivity, and creative mindset to quickly adapt to new processes and change.
- Able to work well with diverse opinions and competing priorities.
- Passion for plant-based food and ingredient development.
- Recipe writing experience.
- Able to use our recipe writing software, and Proficiency in Google Suite and Google Sheets.
- Excellent communication skills – both written and verbal.
