Full Job Description

Are you a compassionate and enthusiastic individual who enjoys helping others connect and form meaningful relationships? JCC Greater Boston is seeking a Social Group Facilitator to join our team. This is a great opportunity to earn some extra income doing really fun and rewarding work!

In this role, you will support adults with disabilities by creatively and enthusiastically facilitating social group activities. You will also create a warm, welcoming, dynamic environment while ensuring participants’ safety. Facilitators prepare social activities and events that promote the development of friendship between participants and create joyful experiences. Facilitators also support group members' inclusion and access to community events.

Responsibilities include:

  • Facilitating social and support groups for individuals across various age groups and interests
  • Planning and organizing group activities, outings, and events
  • Providing guidance and support to group participants
  • Encouraging active participation and engagement within the groups
  • Creating a safe and inclusive environment for all group members
  • Plan and lead impactful group activities that align with the mission and objectives
  • Create an environment that displays an understanding of the sensitivity, awareness, and responsiveness required to support adults who have a disability successfully
  • Establish group norms that allow all group members to show success and feel part of the group
  • Provide participants with the support and accommodations they need to access the activities
  • Prepare social activities and events that promote the development of friendship bonds between participants and create joyful experiences.
  • Coordinate with the inclusion department to successfully execute the event
  • Ensure that activities are well organized, communicated, and attended.
  • Support group members' inclusion and access to community events.
  • Communicate with program participants and/or caregivers regarding event details, provide  reminders, convey transportation details, and encourage participation
  • Recruit new group members to join the group
  • Report to supervisor concerns regarding events or participants

We proudly offer competitive wages/salaries. The starting wage for this position is $23.05 - $27.95 hourly. The scope of the position will ultimately determine the salary offered, the candidate’s relevant experience, and internal equity. This is a part-time, 2 - 4-hours-a-month position.

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in education, social work, behavioral/mental health, or related field. Additional certifications or a Master’s Degree in a related field is a plus. Must have 3 years’ experience working with people with disabilities, providing adaptive services. 

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted at the JCC’s discretion to meet minimum criteria.

  • Has a record of successfully using a gentle, effective approach when needed and being able to adjust to different personalities, aptitudes, and attentional levels
  • Is able to work a flexible schedule
  • Demonstrates an ability to effectively communicate with community members and coworkers in person, over email, and on the phone
  • Has a record of reliability and responsibility
  • Demonstrates sound judgment and discernment

Physical Requirements:  Able to work well in a busy, dynamic, and sometimes noisy environment involving multiple tasks and priorities. Position may require any combination of the following: sitting, standing, or walking for moderate periods of time relative to the events assigned or coordinated by the Facilitator.

JCC Greater Boston is a nonprofit organization with roots in earlier Settlement Houses and Young Men's Hebrew Associations; JCC Greater Boston today offers a wide range of services and program activities throughout the Greater Boston region (~50,000 individuals annually in 98 communities). The organization provides a variety of programs and services to children and adults in the Greater Boston Jewish community including preschools, day camps, a regional model of Jewish family engagement, a fully equipped fitness and aquatic center, arts and culture classes, performances, lectures, and Jewish holiday celebrations.
