Full Job Description
Sr. Staff Software Engineer, Network Architecture
Lightmatter is redefining what computers and human beings are capable of by delivering a fundamentally new kind of computer that calculates using light. Transistors, the workhorse of modern computers, aren't improving at the rate they once were. To scale AI, companies are building increasingly large and energy-expensive data centers, a path that is neither financially nor environmentally sustainable. By delivering ultra-high performance and energy efficiency,
Lightmatter’s technology allows the construction of systems on a massive scale. Lightmatter systems can support numerous high-radix and reconfigurable network topologies with combined fiber optic and on-wafer communication channels.
We are looking for talented software engineers to help Lightmatter and our customers understand, optimize, and deploy these networked systems. In this role, you will be responsible for exploring various network topologies, their reliability, and their ability to support different workloads effectively. You'll work with multiple software teams and digital, analog, and photonic designers to ensure that our software and hardware can achieve a generational leap in scale and performance.
Responsibilities
- Devise, model, and document various network topologies for scale, fault-tolerance, reliability, and lifecycle, including deployment, maintenance, upgrade, and decommissioning.
- Use and contribute to simulation infrastructure to perform high-fidelity analysis of these models and workloads, including the unique aspects of photonic interconnect.
- Present results verbally and in written form internally and to partners, customers, and prospects.
Requirements
- BS in computer/software engineering, electrical engineering, or related field +12 years of experience, or MS +8 years of experience
- Proficient with C++ and Python
- Strong understanding of data center computer networks
- Ability to travel 10% of the time
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with network simulation, including discrete event simulation
- Experience with large-scale data center network lifecycle.
- Experience with trace-driven distributed systems simulation
- Proficient in developing in a Linux-based environment
- Prior management experience with small teams.
Benefits
- Comprehensive Health Care Plan (Medical, Dental & Vision)
- 401k matching
- Life Insurance (Basic, Voluntary & AD&D)
- Generous Time Off (Vacation, Sick & Public Holidays)
- Paid Family Leave
- Short Term & Long Term Disability
- Training & Development
- Flexible, hybrid workplace model
- Stock Option Plan
We offer competitive compensation. The base salary range for this role, inclusive of all US locations, is $200,000-$250,000. Your base salary will be determined based on location, experience, educational background, and market data.
