Construction Project Engineer
Office Location: 601 First Street NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49504
Position Classification: Full-Time Regular

As an entry-level Construction Project Engineer at Rockford Construction, you will provide support to a construction project and project team during all phases of construction. You will assist with interpretation of plans and specifications, compiling of contract documentation, cost tracking, document management, and various administrative duties. You will assist with organizing and overseeing the construction process, ensuring projects are completed in a timely and efficient manner. The Project Engineer will work on projects under direct supervision of a Market Leader and select Project Managers. This position will include a mix of project engineering (40%), administrative support duties (40%) and field work (20%).
The ideal candidate for this opportunity will have experience reviewing, analyzing and resolving field construction issues and design discrepancies, along with strong communication and project management skills, client/customer service focus, and great organizational skills. Key Responsibilities
- Perform QA/QC of the work (budget, schedule, plans, personnel and subcontractor performance) and report out regularly.
- Respond to any client requirements, concerns or requests throughout the project.
- Review engineering deliverables and initiate appropriate corrective actions.
- Maintain bid sites with plans, specifications, and addenda during bid process.
- Create scopes of work and assemble front-end Project Manual.
- Distribute, track, and compile all bulletins and bulletin pricing for Project Manager's review.
- Maintain project information in PM software.
- Monitor and report construction work progress and quantities to the project team.
- Provide updated unit prices for estimating department.
- Attend project management meetings and document OAC/CM meetings.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Education Requirements:
- A minimun of a Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management.
Competency Requirements:
- 1-3 years of related work experience or the successful completion of an internships/co-op at Rockford Construction or within the construction industry.
- Experience using construction software, including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, Access).
- The ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks.
- Committed to exceeding customer expectations; outstanding oral and written communication skills.
- The ability to read and interpret blueprints.
- A passion for looking for ways to improve individual and/or company performance.
- A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation is required; an essential part of this job is traveling to job sites.

Environmental Factors
The work environment for this position may subject the individual to hazards commonly associated with construction sites. Examples of physical hazards include noise, proximity to moving vehicles, atmospheric conditions, close quarters, uneven surfaces, and elevated surfaces. The individual may also be subjected to outside environmental conditions (weather) where protection may not be available. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required at all times outside the job trailer. The work environment for this position may also include occasional visits to the corporate office and job site trailer, the physical demands require the ability to sit for long periods of time.
