Full Job Description
We're seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer with extensive experience in consumer electronics hardware development. In this role, you will manage multiple hardware development projects, guiding them from concept through launch and into post-launch phases. Based in our Detroit, US office, you'll collaborate closely with teams in both Detroit and London, UK, as well as our manufacturing partners.
Responsibilities
- Drive the design, development, and testing of electronic components, ensuring readiness for mass production while maintaining compliance with automotive processes, quality, and regulatory standards.
- Serve as the key point of contact for electrical engineering with overseas manufacturers (CM, ODM, JDM models), coordinating efforts in product development, prototyping, testing, and quality assurance to meet stringent specifications and standards.
- Travel to both international and local manufacturing facilities for product development, testing, and quality assurance reviews.
- Engage with overseas manufacturing sites to diagnose, debug, and oversee the rework of Surface Mount Technology (SMT) Printed Circuit Board Assembly (PCBA) issues, ensuring effective implementation of necessary modifications.
- Manage the acquisition and maintenance of certifications such as FCC, CE, and RoHS, ensuring products are compliant with regional and international regulatory standards, while proactively monitoring changes in requirements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including software, mechanical, and manufacturing engineers, as well as the Machine Learning (ML) team, to refine electrical designs for optimized product integration and edge ML processing.
- Mentor junior engineers and support collaboration between internal teams and overseas partners, ensuring alignment on deliverables and adherence to budget constraints.
- Contribute to R&D initiatives in collaboration with global partners, staying at the forefront of advancements in electrical engineering and edge ML to leverage emerging technologies effectively.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
- 5+ years experience in electrical engineering or related field.
- Strong expertise in electrical engineering, including circuit design, component fundamentals, sensors, batteries and charging, power supply design, RF layout, digital communication protocols, manufacturing processes, and automated testing and debugging of complex systems.
- Proficiency in circuit simulation, schematic layout, and PCB design using tools like Altium, SPICE, or similar.
- Experience with international contract manufacturers and suppliers, product development, designing for manufacturability, assembly, and testing, and technical project management.
- Hands-on lab experience including soldering and the use of multimeters, oscilloscopes, LCR meters, spectrum and logic analyzers, and function generators.
- Proven track record in designing and developing high-reliability, battery-powered consumer electronics at scale.
- Experience with mixed domain circuit design, filter design, operation/instrumentation amplifiers, ADC/DACs, power supply design, microcontroller, or microprocessor based development.
- Experience designing devices with integrated technologies such as WiFi, LTE, NFC, Bluetooth, and GPS.
- Experience programming in languages such as Python/C/C++.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Radar experience.
- Automotive experience.

Compensation Range
Compensation may vary depending on skills and experience.
Base Salary: $96,600 - $135,000
