Full Job Description
The Tool Tech supports the cutting tool related activities in a manufacturing environment.
Essential Job Functions:
Tasks listed are not meant to be all-encompassing:
• Monitor cutting tool performance and condition at the machine, in the preset area, and on the
unscheduled tool change table
• Review tool usage to ensure cost effective use of resources and sustained supply
• Coordinate the urgency of replacement tool orders based on previous usage with the Customer Service
Representatives
• Maintain cost savings initiatives set forth by the plant
• Facilitate Continuous Improvement through tool testing
• Complete all required reports, including actual vs expected and SBI testing
• Communicate production changes to the necessary teams
• Attend all plant and SBI required meetings
• Manage repair benches and monitor regrind material
• Review kit inventory levels
• Utilize the 8-step process to eliminate excess and obsolete material
• Recommend cutting parameters to optimize the machining process
• Support customer initiated tooling improvements
• Lead self-initiated tooling improvements with prior customer and corporate engineering approval
• Use and complete the ACD (Add, Change, and Delete) process accordingly
• Adhere to internal (Shively) and external (Customer) specific procedures and processes
• Report and assist with the documentation of Non-Conformances, Corrective Actions, and Continuous
Improvements
• Maintain safety and good housekeeping standards
• Make decisions within the limits of general standards or procedures
• Report near misses and incidents and cooperate with investigations

Requirements
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Knowledge of manufacturing concepts, practices, and procedures
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently, and with engineers, CSRs, suppliers, and customer representatives
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
• Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings
Education and Experience:
• High school diploma or equivalent required
• 2-year degree in a related field or equivalent experience preferred
• Experience in manufacturing in the automotive industry
Physical Requirements:
• Prolonged periods of standing and/or sitting at a desk and working on a computer
• Must be able to lift up to 35 pounds at a time
• Must be able to access, navigate, and work within a manufacturing facility that may or may not be
temperature controlled
