Vehicle Emission Regulatory Engineer for the Emission Certification & Regulation Team within the
The vehicle emission regulatory engineer will help Support vehicles meet environmental standards at federal, state, & local levels. A qualified candidate will be capable of becoming a regulatory professional and be trained in researching and analyzing future regulatory trends to recommend internal action; guide the direction for company research; and help develop policy. Communication directly with agencies such as the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), California Air Resource Board (CARB), National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), and U.S. Customs is regularly required.
Beyond all else, the candidate will be able to read and understand regulations; have a good and positive work ethic; and have strong communication skills – the rest can be learned in the position.
Typical Responsibilities:
- Follow Federal and State regulatory activities and provide related analysis, comments, and guidance to company’s affiliates.
- Participate in industry and government meetings and committees.
- Prepare corporate positions and written comments in response to regulatory actions.
- Provide guidance on appropriate action in response to regulatory initiatives.
- Response to government inquiries.
- Provide interpretations and background regarding regulations as needed.
- Serve as a corporate representative on trade group environment subcommittees.
- Prepare bi-weekly, quarterly, and yearly summaries of environmental activity and present technical reports as assigned.
- Some travel, domestic and international, is possible.
Requirements
- Candidate should have good communication and relationship skills.
- Regulation, certification, or government experience would be a significant advantage.
- Candidate will need to have excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Candidate should have the ability to read, understand, and summarize government regulations.
