As a Strategic Purchasing Leader, your role is crucial in ensuring that our organization is always equipped with the necessary supplies to provide the best care for the animals we cherish. 🐾 With a focus on continuous improvement and efficiency, you will be the driving force behind innovative procurement strategies that foundationally support our mission as an animal welfare organization. From vendor relationships to internal relationship, collaboration will be a key part of your role as you work to identify procurement needs, source quality supplies, and monitor related spending for the organization. Schedule/Location:
- Full Time, ~40 hours/week. Primarily office hours Monday - Friday, with occasional weekend shifts for things such as cycle counts
- Hybrid: The person in this position will have the opportunity to work remotely for part of their time, estimated 1-2 days remote per week. Initial training period may include more days in the office. Access to reliable internet, ability to prioritize work independently, and foster relationships while working in a hybrid (remote and in-person) environment required. Must live in or have easy access to the Minneapolis/St. Paul area. This role's main office is our Golden Valley, MN location.
Pay: $67,000-77,000 annually, depending upon experience

Job Purpose: You are a direct communicator and persuasive leader with a passion for strategic decision making and vendor management. You lead and support AHS’s purchasing decisions in a way that ensures constant innovation and adequate supply levels.
What you will be doing:
Leadership — Own outcomes, work collaboratively, and hold yourself and other stakeholders accountable. Support a culture of improvement. Manage resources responsibly and participate in first teams. Identify and cultivate relationships with internal partners and external vendors. Own the purchasing system and process.
Communication — Listen, pay attention, and be a responsible steward of information.
Strategy — Develop and implement purchasing strategies to advance organizational goals and initiatives. Act with a sense of urgency to ensure that projects and tasks are completed in a timely manner.
Process — Negotiate price and delivery of supplies. Evaluate, prepare, and track purchase orders. Monitor and maintain inventory of supplies.
Support — Monitor trends, analyze, and report on the effectiveness of strategies. Process invoices in a timely manner.
Culture — Foster an open and inclusive work environment by modeling AHS’s behaviors and values, consistent with the vision and mission of the organization. Champion a culture of safety and promote meaningful volunteer engagement.

Requirements
What we are looking for:
Experience — 3+ years of experience in purchasing. Manufacturing or Medical Industry experience strongly preferred. Experience working in an ERP or SaaS software required.
Adaptability — Ability to work in a professional and positive manner, balancing shifting priorities in a variety of situations. Must have high level of initiative and the ability to influence decision making.
Communication — Persuasive and strategic communicator with strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work as a leader and partner collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
Schedule — Regular, predictable attendance, punctuality, and availability to work during operations hours as defined by leadership with flexibility to work an occasional evening or weekend shift.
Physical & Emotional Capabilities — Must be able to handle the physical and emotional aspect of work in an animal shelter environment, including the humane use of euthanasia. Must have a high level of resiliency.
