Objective:
The successful Director of Sales is responsible for leading and developing a team of 16 to drive revenue growth. The Director of Sales at Shippers Supply, Inc. (SSI) is expected to provide input to and execute the company’s vision and strategy by developing sales plans and initiatives, as well as establishing targets for the team. This role will need to reinforce the use of a defined sales process, give effective advice for deal coaching, and provide encouraging, helpful feedback for developing sales skills using strong observation and coaching skills. As a well-established privately owned company in the packaging solutions industry, we have been a trusted partner to businesses throughout the upper Midwest since 1928.
The team-oriented Director of Sales will be expected to optimize performance by utilizing a consistent rhythm of meetings and activities and using data to monitor progress, drive accountability, provide coaching, and help team members adjust where needed to perform better and execute the company strategy. This individual will be responsible for creating visibility through strong, transparent, regular communication with the leadership team.
As the Director of Sales at SSI, you will be crucial in driving our growth and success. You will be responsible for developing and maintaining strategic partner relationships and exceeding revenue targets. You will have the opportunity to work with a diverse range of clients, helping them find the perfect packaging solutions to achieve their business goals.
Key Accountabilities:

Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a business field required, or equivalent business experience.
Five to ten (5-10) years of sales management experience with a small-to-mid-sized sales team.
Three to five (3-5) years of experience in selling (with a successful history in obtaining sales goals) with industry sales experience preferred.
Strong coaching skills – ability to observe, listen, and provide feedback for employees to develop their skills in a positive, encouraging manner.
Organizational skills – the ability to create, execute, and hold others to a plan.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to navigate change and build team buy-in.
The right candidate will also possess the following competencies and skills:
- Success working with an interactive management team (comfort with group decision-making)
- Proven ability to lead and implement sales force transformation initiatives, helping the sales organization transition to a consultative sales approach.
- Data-driven approach to leverage CRM to drive sales accountability, identify skill gaps, and develop targeted coaching programs for individual and team growth.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills: verbal, written, and listening.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and a valid driver’s license with reliable transportation are required.
- Change Management expertise.

- Primarily office-based setting with computer use (standard office equipment).
- Regular regional travel required (up to 75%) within the Midwest (MN, WI, SD, ND, IA).
- National and international travel possible (up to 25%), including overnight stays. This travel is expected to increase in the coming year to support the company’s goal of achieving 6-8% growth in national business.
- Business conferences may require travel 3-4 times a year.
- The ability to lift and assemble basic packaging may be required.
