The Position:
This role requires a proactive, detail and goal-oriented, assertive person with strong communication and negotiation skills. The Procurement Specialist plays a critical role in managing our supply chain and ensuring timely procurement of materials and components necessary for business. The ideal candidate will have a deep comprehension of procurement processes, supplier management and technical understanding, preferably in the packaging industry.
Job Duties:
- Source, select, and negotiate with suppliers to obtain the best quality, pricing and terms for materials, components, and machined parts
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders (engineering, sales, spare parts, accounting, technicians, leadership, etc.) in a positive, proactive manner; including our parent German company
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers and manage supplier performance to ensure on-time delivery and quality standards are met, providing excellent service
- Evaluate supplier capabilities, track supplier performance metrics, and drive continuous improvement initiatives, including cost-savings measures
- Analyse market trends, monitor industry developments, and identify potential new suppliers, including site visits
- Prepare purchase orders, review purchase requisitions, and manage procurement documentation in compliance with company policies and procedures
- Coordinate logistics and shipping activities to ensure timely delivery of materials to support production schedules
- Monitor inventory levels and optimize inventory management practices to minimize carrying costs while ensuring uninterrupted supply
- Responsible for warehouse and inventory levels
- Ensure accurate collaboration and information exchange with SOMIC Germany, through analysis and reporting of SOMIC US procurement activities
- Responsible for warehouse AMS related processes to ensure inventory accuracy with technical directive for warehouse employees from the service department
Requirements
- Preferred Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, business administration or a related field
- Proven experience (3-5 years) in procurement, strategic sourcing, or supply chain management, preferably within the manufacturing industry
- Strong negotiation skills and the ability to build effective supplier relationships
- Proficiency in procurement software and systems, NetSuite experience beneficial
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
- Can do, positive attitude
- Ability to speak and read in German would be a plus
- Confident use of MS Office applications and ERP systems
- Capable of both independent and collaborative work
