Pay: $25/hour

Schedule: Part-time; 16 hours/week
- Saturdays and Sundays 8:30am-5:00pm
Location and Travel Required: This position will be at our 4 Twin Cities locations: Golden Valley, Coon Rapids, St. Paul, and Woodbury. Must have a valid driver's license. Must be willing to travel between sites.
Interview Process: One 30-minute virtual video interview followed by one 30 minute in-person interview
Job Summary
The Maintenance Technician I is responsible for performing maintenance and completing facilities tickets.
Essential Functions
Facilities Tickets:
- Monitor incoming tickets from staff for maintenance requests.
- Troubleshoot, diagnose and resolve tickets within a timely manner.
- Escalate complex problems to higher level support as needed.
- Update tickets to document issues and resolutions and close out tickets once complete.
- Identify recurring issues and suggest mitigation strategies.
Maintenance:
- Inspect buildings and grounds to ensure they meet safety regulations and are well maintained.
- Perform general maintenance within legal guidelines for licensure / certification on mechanical, electrical, HVAC and building systems.
- Perform, track and recommend preventative maintenance on all systems at assigned sites.
- Operate and maintain AHS vehicles in accordance with Department of Transportation and organizational guidelines, as required to keep them working efficiently and safely.
Communication and Culture:
- Communicate in a positive and professional manner with customers, other employees, and volunteers.
- Promote a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion to make AHS a more welcoming environment for employees, volunteers, customers, and the community.
Technology:
- Clock in and out of shifts using ADP.
- Monitor facilities ticketing software.
- Monitor AHS email and other messaging software.
- Other duties as assigned.
Schedule and Attendance:
- Regular, predictable attendance, punctuality, and availability to work during operational hours.
- Attend and participate in regular team meetings, all staff meetings, and one-on-one meetings with direct leader.
- Must be able to travel to a different work site based on department needs
- May be required to attend occasional off-site meetings and events.
- Ability to be on call for after hours, time sensitive facilities matters.
Work Environment:
- Environment can be dirty, wet, warm, and humid.
- Exposure to unpleasant odors, chemicals, and noises, including barking.
- May be exposed to extreme weather conditions including but not limited to cold, heat, rain, and snow when outside.
Requirements
Experience:
- 1+ years of experience as a maintenance technician highly preferred.
- Valid driver’s license required.
Skills:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and attention to detail.
- Ability to operate and understand the basic functions of machines and tools.
- Basic understanding of carpentry, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and HVAC systems.
- Strong multi-tasking and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient with computers, specifically a working knowledge of Microsoft products.
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. unassisted and 100+ lbs. assisted.
- Prolonged periods of standing and walking.
Emotional Demands:
- Must be comfortable with the emotional aspect of work in an animal shelter environment, including the use of humane euthanasia.
Transportation:
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
