Due to an impending retirement, Unity Bank of Mississippi has an opening for a newly created Senior Loan Officer role with potential to become EVP, Chief Lending Officer within 12 months.
Job Description:
Oversee and expand existing credit portfolios. Manage lending staff. Evaluate and determine the credit risks of commercial clients through detailed analysis. Prepare Allowance for Credit Losses (CECL).
Primary Responsibilities:
- Portfolio Management: Oversee all aspects of lending operations, including commercial, consumer, mortgage, and small business lending, to maintain a balanced and diversified loan portfolio.
- Risk Management: Implement robust risk management practices to mitigate credit, operational, and compliance risks, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements and internal policies. Administer collection and foreclosure activity.
- Business Development: Lead business development initiatives to expand the bank's lending footprint, cultivate new client relationships, and capitalize on growth opportunities in the local market.
- Credit Underwriting: Provide strategic guidance and oversight to the credit underwriting process, ensuring sound lending decisions, prudent risk assessment, and adherence to credit policies. Prepare or assist in the preparation of commercial loan presentations and annual commercial loan reviews.
- Credit Analysis: Review and analyze all pertinent credit and financial information, including, but not limited to, financial statements, tax returns, credit bureaus, appraisals, internal credit information, industry research and peer data.
- Board Reporting: Manage and prepare Allowance for Credit Losses (CECL) and various other reports. Attend monthly board meetings.
- People Management: Supervise a team of 8 lenders and loan operations department personnel.
- Portfolio Growth: Actively promotes and develops new loan and deposit business for the financial institution personally or through subordinates. This position will carry a portfolio and is responsible for new production. This position requires travel to outside offices/locations at times to meet with management, staff and others, however on-site presence is also necessary for regular, successful performance.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in finance or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- At least five years of experience in senior leadership roles within commercial/small business banking, with a focus on lending, business development, portfolio management, operations and credit risk management.
- Strong understanding of lending products, underwriting principles, lending regulations and compliance requirements.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with clients and colleagues alike.
