Full Job Description
GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES
The President will be responsible for representing the Economic Development Partnership (EDP) by working closely with the Board of Directors, City of Bolivar, Polk County, and various outside organizations. This position will be a part-time position with the potential to become full-time. As a part-time position, the role will allow for flexible work hours with approximately 20-30 hours per week.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Review, evaluate, and process development proposals.
- Review technical reports and make public presentations.
- Develop an overall economic development plan.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive inventory of available buildings and sites in the community for economic development purposes and track business activity into and out of the city.
- Research and prepare marketing materials for distribution. Serve as a liaison between the Bolivar Chamber of Commerce, the City of Bolivar, Polk County, the EDP, other communities, and organizations that are appropriate for advancing the economic interests of the EDP.
- Prepare and maintain information that will assist in responding to inquiries about local economic development activities and opportunities in the City of Bolivar and Polk County.
- Assist new and expanding businesses with applications for use permits, re-zoning, variances, and other permits, State and Federal incentives, and general land use procedures as needed.
- Monitors local, state, and federal legislation and regulations relating to economic development and report findings, trends, and recommendations to the EDP.
- Prepare, implement, and monitor necessary programs and activities to promote the City and County to potential business and residents.
- Increase economic opportunities through activities that improve the business climate and the quality of life of the community.
- Develop and maintain good relationships with universities, employment agencies, and other recruitment resources for workforce development.
Requirements
Qualification Requirements
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Education, Experience, & Training
- Bachelor’s degree in economics, finance, urban and regional planning, public administration, or a closely related field.
- Three to five years’ experience in economic development preferred.
- Satisfactory completion of a nationally recognized economic development institute or program may be substituted for appropriate amount of experience.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Considerable knowledge of municipal government operations, familiarity with city ordinances and proceedings.
- Experience in not-for-profit management with a minimum of 3 years as executive director preferred.
- Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Experience in typing, word processing, and related clerical skills.
- Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to protect the confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Ability to meet and deal with the public in an effective and courteous manner.
- Ability to always manage confidential information appropriately and professionally.
- Ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail amidst a multi-task, changing priority environment.
