The Vice President of Human Resources (VP of HR) is a strategic leadership role responsible for overseeing all aspects of the human resources function within American Industrial Transport, Inc. ("AITX" or “Company”), a leading railcar services solution provider to the industrial freight shipping market. It is an affiliate of ITE Management L.P. ("ITE"), an investment firm specializing in industrial transportation assets and related infrastructure. The role reports to the President of AITX and will be located in the St. Louis or Chicago areas.
AITX is a large and dynamic organization of over 850 individuals operating across the United States, Canada and Europe. The VP of HR will lead the development and implementation of HR strategies, programs, and policies to support the Company's overall business objectives. This position requires a seasoned HR professional with a track record of success in talent management, compensation & benefit planning, organizational development, and creating a positive and inclusive workplace culture.
Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership:
- Develop and execute HR strategies and initiatives that align with the Company's business goals and strategic objectives.
- Act as a trusted advisor and collaborate with the executive team, department heads and key stakeholders to provide employment, benefits, and HR insights and guidance for business decisions.
Talent Acquisition, Retention and Management:
- Lead the talent acquisition process, ensuring the recruitment and retention of top talent.
- Implement effective onboarding programs to integrate new employees into the Company.
- Enhance and deploy performance management systems, providing guidance on talent development and succession planning.
Employee Relations:
- Address employee concerns and conflicts, fostering a positive and inclusive workplace culture.
- Develop and enforce policies that promote a healthy work environment.
- Ensure compliance with employment laws and regulations.
Training and Development:
- Implement training programs to enhance employee skills and support professional development.
- Identify and address skill gaps within the organization.
Compensation and Benefits:
- Develop and manage competitive compensation and benefits programs.
- Ensure salary structures and benefits packages remain competitive in the market.
HR Technology:
- Stay current on industry best practices, trends and emerging technologies and implement relevant systems to streamline HR processes.
- Oversea the deployment and implementation of the Company’s new HRIS (ADP).
- Utilize data and analytics to make informed decisions and improve HR efficiency.
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI):
- Lead initiatives to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace.
- Foster a culture that values and celebrates diversity.
Legal Compliance:
- Stay updated on employment laws and regulations to ensure the Company's compliance.
- Mitigate legal risks associated with HR practices.
Labor Relations:
- Serve as a liaison between HR and Legal to manage relationships with unions, and participate in collective bargaining negotiations if required.
Change Management:
Lead and oversee all aspects of change management initiatives ensuring smooth transitions during periods of change including mergers, acquisitions, restructuring, and organizational transformations.
Metrics and Reporting:
- Develop, implement and measure HR related KPI’s related to employee support, retention, etc.
- Regularly report on HR metrics to executives.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
- Proven experience (10+ years) in a senior HR leadership role, preferably in a large corporate setting.
- In-depth knowledge of HR principles, employment laws, and best practices.
- Strong strategic thinking, leadership, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Demonstrated success in talent acquisition, development, and retention.
- Experience in managing HR technology and analytics.
