Navarro Research and Engineering is recruiting a Health & Safety (H&S) Manager in Las Vegas, NV.

Reporting to the Environmental Safety Health & Quality (ESH&Q) Manager providing technical expertise, leadership in the H&S organization and Navarro Program; involving health physics, safety, and health with expert knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, procedures and reporting requirements.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
- Under little to no supervision provides expert skill and ability to perform highly advanced tasks.
- Level of language skills, mathematical skills, communication skills, reasoning ability and computer skills necessary to perform essential functions of the job.
- Broad knowledge of construction safety, drilling operations, electrical safety, driving safety, and the DOE Integrated Safety Management System.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively.
- Demonstrated ability to perform substantially varied and complex duties.
- Demonstrated ability to adapt procedures and processes as necessary to perform tasks.
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite software.
- Must be able to complete and maintain all training and qualifications required for the position.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES AND KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy security clearance.
- Maintains current knowledge of Federal, State, and local laws, regulations, ordinances, pertaining to H&S.
- High level of responsibility, accountability and impact on the contract or business area they are assigned to by managing project teams and/or deliverables for customers.
- Follow and set strategies and goals for the H&S organization and review results.
- Demonstrated ability to perform substantially varied and most complex duties.
- Acts as a content expert and/or internal consultant applying leadership and functional expertise for the area of designated responsibility.
- May be assigned to project teams.
- Develops and implements inspection programs and procedures designed to ensure compliance with worker safety and health regulations.
- Develops, implements, and monitors corrective measures to minimize or eliminate non-compliance.
- Demonstrated ability to manage, train, and mentor more junior staff.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS – EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Occupational Safety and Health, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, or related field, and at least 15 years’ experience.
- Must have 5 years of experience at a DOE facility.
- Must have previous management experience.
- Education or experience that is job related may be substituted on a case-by-case basis.
- Certification as CSP and/or CIH desirable.
- Must have or be able to obtain 29 CFR 1910.120 “HAZWOPER” 24/40-hour certification.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Office
- Office related work includes data analysis, technical/scientific reporting etc. relating to field characterization activities.
- Requires sitting for extended periods of time.
Field
- Fieldwork requires extended workdays as long as 15 hours; occasionally requiring periods of overnight stays. Working outdoors under temperature extremes, both hot and cold.
- Must have or be able to qualify to wear respiratory protection.
- Field activity work involves standing, walking, and bending, lifting to 60 lbs.
- Field operations are typically based at the Nevada National Security Site (60 miles NW of Las Vegas Nevada) other locations may be remote with considerable portions of the workday spent outdoors.
