The Role
You will be the Lead Software Engineer in one of our multi-disciplinary product squads. This is an exciting and impactful role that provides the opportunity to heavily influence the technical growth of our team. You will bring your passion for technology, experience of developing great software, and constant desire to improve. There is no line management responsibility with this role - we believe that to technically lead, you need capacity to focus on technical challenges and as such we have pulled line management out into a separate role.
What you will do
At GBG we're constantly learning, and we're not afraid to adapt to the ever-shifting environment around us. Here's what your day-to-day work might look like, but this will change as you, your role and our business all develop. As a Lead Software Engineer, you will:
- Assume full ownership of the technical design, delivery, and comprehensive documentation for the products within the squad's scope of responsibility
- Be an individual contributor; actively participating in engineering tasks to drive the team towards achieving sprint goals and deliverables
- Contribute to the evolution of broader architectural patterns and practices across our entire Documents & Biometrics product portfolio, as well as ensuring alignment to these.
- Engage with stakeholders to understand business requirements, provide technical insights, and align technical solutions with business objectives
- Raise the bar for technical excellence, performance, and reliability.
- Mentor and coach others to help them be the best they can be.
- Care about agility as much you care for scalability and availability. Continuous deployment keeps us focused on incremental releases
- Foster a knowledge-sharing culture, where you actively capture, document, and disseminate technical knowledge, including best practices, coding standards, and architectural decisions.
Requirements
What We're Looking For
- A strong foundation in software engineering principles and deep knowledge of a high-level programming language. Our desktop portfolio predominantly utilizes C# and C++, with Java playing a supplementary role.
- Previous experience of being the primary technical leader in a team, including collaboration with other teams and stakeholders.
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to adapt your style to different audiences.
- A passion for promoting engineering excellence in those around you through coaching and guiding individuals, and the team, to influence change.
- An unwavering "can-do" attitude
- An appetite for and ability to quickly comprehend and complex technical challenges
- Proficiency in identifying and resolving intricate technical issues using a logical and analytical approach.
- The ability to think strategically and align technical solutions with business objectives.
- A commitment to continuous learning and professional development, with a curiosity for exploring new technologies, tools, and methodologies. You stay updated with industry trends and advancements to drive innovation and maintain technical relevance.
