Role Description:
The Manufacturing Engineer serves as a continuous improvement driver. He/she develops and improves manufacturing processes by studying product and manufacturing methods. He/she determines systems and tools needed in order to achieve manufacturing goals according to product specification. The manufacturing engineer is also working to improve worker safety and satisfaction. He/she may write training manuals and/or technical procedures.
Manufacturing Engineer Job Duties:
- Develop and implement systemic improvements to increase product flow from order entry to shipping
- Develop and evaluate manufacturing methods by applying knowledge of product design, manufacturing processes, conferring with vendors and customers, soliciting input from team members
- Design tooling and gaging fixtures for manufacturing processes
- Improve manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning workflow, space requirements, and equipment layout
- Implement lean and 5S Principles
- Identify and implement cost savings and safety initiatives.
- Identify, organize, and lead corrective action efforts to resolve production, product and equipment issues
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies
- Completes other tasks as assigned
Manufacturing Engineer Skills and Qualifications:
- BS Degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering
- 5 – 7 years’ experience minimum in a manufacturing plant, preferably with CNC machining/chip cutting operations
- Knowledge of materials, materials science, manufacturing processes and equipment (for ex milling, turning, grinding)
- Knowledge of quality management systems
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to present technical information to vendors, operators and management
- Proficiency with CAD, CAD/CAM (MasterCAM preferred)
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office software, JobBoss software (or similar integrated MRP/ERP)
- Knowledge of and ability to apply 5S and lean manufacturing techniques
- Ability to interface with, stand in for, and coach shop floor personnel
Additional Information
This is a full-time exempt salaried position. Average workweek is 45 hours.
Normal workday starts at 7 am, Monday through Friday; Half day Saturday based on operational needs.
