As an Inventory Assistant you will support and implement direct service programs in southern New Jersey, including the Mobile Pantry program in Atlantic, Cape May and Cumberland counties and the Community Assistance Pantry (CAP) in Egg Harbor Township. You will also maintain a culture of caring for neighbors that utilize, and volunteers that support, all direct services programs. This role will support inventory operations and daily distributions.
What you’ll do in your role:
- Create and maintain a culture of caring for the neighbors and partners we serve through providing customer service support to volunteers and staff and support inventory days and occasional food distributions in Community Assistance Pantry (CAP) and the Mobile Pantry; represent CFBNJ at occasional external meetings and events.
- Stock and maintain shelves/tables and prepare Community Assistance Pantry (CAP) To- Go Boxes for Home Delivery Pilot program.
- Build and maintain subject matter expertise in best practices for food pantry operations and equitable service models. Collaborate with other departments to offer service insights to partners, improve wellness outcomes for our neighbors across our service area and implement advertising initiatives for the program.
- Maintain knowledge and consistently model the policies and procedures of Feeding America’s national office; US & NJ Departments of Agriculture; and state and local government regulations pertaining to food handling, distribution, storage, sanitation, and disposal.
- Collaborate with Network Relations, Programs, and Operations staff, under the direction of the Neighbor Services Lead and Director of Community Nutrition, to develop strategies to fill gaps and improve network partner coverage in underserved areas.
- Serve as back-up coverage for the Community Assistance Pantry and Mobile Pantry program, as needed.

What you’ll need to be successful in this role:
- Event management or community outreach experience.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and demonstrate the ability to bend, stand, and lift at least 50 lbs. frequently.
- Positive, empathetic, and creative solutions-based attitude, excellent communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience working in underserved communities and with people from a variety of backgrounds: diverse client populations, community organizations, government officials, vendors, and staff at all levels.
- An understanding of systemic inequality and food justice concepts.
- Timeliness, dependability, and accountability are essential for success in this role.
- Bilingual or multilingual skills (English plus Spanish or Vietnamese, Haitian Creole, or Arabic) are a plus.
- Following hiring, must successfully complete and stay up to date with food handling certification.
