Job Description:
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Bookkeeper to oversee the financial records of our synagogue. This individual will play a crucial role in maintaining accurate financial documentation and reports, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, and aiding the administrative team in effective financial management to support our mission and services.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain precise accounting records and files, including all transactions and assets.
- Analyze budgets and financial performance through the religious management software, creating detailed reports for board review and decision-making processes.
- Reconcile bank accounts and financial discrepancies, ensuring accuracy in reporting and compliance with applicable laws.
- Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable using the software, ensuring timely processing of invoices and payments.
- Monitor cash flows and track expenditures against budgets to ensure financial stability.
- Manage membership fees and donations
- Prepare tax returns and other mandatory reports, ensuring compliance with all tax regulations.
- Assist in preparing and revising annual budgets, providing financial insights to enhance resource allocation.
- Support payroll processing by maintaining accurate employee records and overseeing the distribution of paychecks.
- Collaborate with administrative staff to enhance financial procedures and integrate financial management with other synagogue operations.
- Work on site at synagogues office, facing members of synagogue and having occasional meetings
- You will be using a religious management software to help with your responsibilities
Requirements
Educational Background:
- Associate's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Work Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in bookkeeping or financial management.
- Previous experience in a nonprofit or religious organization is advantageous.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel.
- Experience with accounting software and systems; familiarity with Religious Management Software is a plus.
- Ability to manage financial records accurately and prepare financial reports.
Knowledge:
- Strong understanding of bookkeeping principles and practices.
- Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations related to finance and nonprofit operations.
- Familiarity with budget preparation and cash flow management.
