Job Description:
This is a full-time position as an Environmental Specialist responsible for the client’s Chemical Management Program, located at a high-tech site in the Albany, New York Capital Region, within fifteen minutes of Saratoga Springs. This individual will work as part of a team of environmental compliance professionals managed as an integrated regional Environmental Health & Safety and Security (EHSS) organization supporting the client’s Northeast U.S. operations.
The Environmental Specialist will serve as the Chemical Management Program Manager for the client, coordinating the new chemical review and approval process, tracking chemical storage information, conducting or verifying import/export reviews as required under the U.S. Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA), and completing environmental reporting for chemicals at the site such as the Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA) Toxic Release Inventory (TRI) and Tier II reports.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Complete day-to-day chemical management duties, following established procedures for chemical authorization and approvals, chemical storage tracking, TSCA compliance, and chemical shipment reviews.
- Coordinate and ensure completion of environmental reports as specified, such as for EPCRA TRI and Tier II reporting.
- Review and monitor various environmental regulations from local, state, and federal regulatory bodies as applicable to the regional chemical management programs (e.g., TSCA, EPCRA TRI and Tier II).
- Maintain the Chemical Management Program written documentation, chemical database, and other records as specified.
- Provide support to the site Emergency Response Team on chemical storage or related information as necessary; serve as a volunteer at the first responder awareness level if applicable.
- Represent the site for chemical management and related environmental compliance as directed at cross-site meetings and industry meetings.
- Complete other duties as assigned to support EHS&S for the site or Northeast region (e.g., represent EHS if assigned as a liaison for operating unit communications, participate in internal audits).
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in an environmental health and safety (EHS) field, chemistry, or another science or engineering discipline
- Experience range: >1-5 years
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with fluency in the English language
- Highly organized with ability to multi-task
- Competency with Microsoft Office platforms and IT applications
Desired Qualifications:
- Familiarity with or working knowledge of environmental regulations
- Experience working in a complex manufacturing environment
Salary:
$60,000 to $85,000 based on qualifications and experience.
