Full Job Description

As a Special Situations and Distressed Analyst, you will play a pivotal role in our Fixed Income team, focusing on identifying and analyzing names in distressed debt and special situations. You will work closely with the sales and trading team, providing critical insights and recommendations to enhance our trading performance in these specialized markets.

This role is 100% in-office.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct in-depth research and analysis of distressed debt and special situations across various sectors and asset classes within the Fixed Income market.
  • Identify investment opportunities and potential risks associated with distressed assets, bankruptcy situations, restructurings, and other special situations.
  • Develop and maintain financial models to assess the value and potential outcomes of distressed debt and special situations investments.
  • Collaborate with the sales and trading team on distressed debt and special situations trades.
  • Demonstrate the capability to interpret intricate legal documents related to investments and articulate their content in a streamlined, comprehensible manner for a diverse investor base.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports and presentations to communicate analysis, investment recommendations, and portfolio performance for client distribution.
  • Continuously monitor market trends, macroeconomic factors, and regulatory changes that may impact distressed debt and special situations investments.
  • Build and maintain relationships with financial advisors, external legal counsel, and other market participants.

Requirements

  • Advanced critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, with the ability to think outside the box.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills - ability to interact with clients and colleagues of investment proficiency, at all levels, in a confident, professional manner and effectively present complex information appropriate for the audience.
  • Advanced comprehension and analysis of various legal documents.
  • Solid understanding of financial statements, financial modeling techniques, and investment analysis concepts, including ability to construct waterfall analysis to value various recovery scenarios.
  • Proficiency in data gathering, analysis, and synthesis using various tools, including Excel, financial databases, and research platforms.
  • Strong attention to detail with strong follow-up and ability to maintain accuracy while working with large volumes of data.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment and establish effective working relationships with colleagues.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Commitment to excellence - perform duties at the highest level possible on a consistent basis.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 5+ years' of demonstrable experience as a Distressed Analyst.
  • FINRA licensed- Series 7, 63, 86, and 87 or willing to test prior to hire.
  • Knowledge of bankruptcy court process and familiarity with bankruptcy documents.
  • Knowledge of valuation of claims and other assets that could arise in a bankruptcy situation.
  • Experience in valuing companies and securities in a variety of sectors.
  • Strong network of contacts in restructuring (i.e. advisors, law firms, restructuring firms).
  • Banking or legal background is a plus.

Odeon Capital Group provides a total compensation package which may include a base salary, commissions, discretionary performance bonus, and/or a comprehensive benefits package. The estimated base salary range for this position, at the time of posting, is $125,000 to $175,000, which is specific to New York and may change in the future. When finalizing an offer, we take into consideration an individual’s experience level and the qualifications they bring to the role to formulate a competitive total compensation package. Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location. The final base salary amount that is offered to any candidate, in any location, will be determined on several factors, which may include but are not limited to location, work experience, skills, knowledge, education, and/or regulatory licenses.
