The Role
The Lead QA Engineer will play a dual role as both a hands-on contributor and a team leader, responsible for managing the QA team while actively participating in the design and execution of testing strategies. This position offers a unique opportunity to make a significant impact on the business by ensuring the quality and performance of our software products, driving automation efforts, and optimizing testing processes. The Lead QA Engineer will lead the development and implementation of testing frameworks, collaborate cross-functionally with product, development, and operations teams, and mentor QA engineers to maintain the highest standards of product quality. This role is ideal for someone who is eager to lead by example and drive innovation in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership and Team Management:
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of QA engineers.
- Set quality objectives and ensure adherence to testing strategies, processes, and methodologies.
- Facilitate regular team meetings and provide performance feedback
- Collaborate with project managers, developers, and stakeholders to deliver on-time, high-quality software releases.
- Quality Assurance Strategy:
- Define and implement a comprehensive QA strategy, including test automation and manual testing approaches.
- Create and execute detailed test plans, test cases, and test scripts based on product requirements.
- Ensure proper test coverage by evaluating and improving existing test processes and tools.
- Introduce new testing tools, frameworks, and methodologies to enhance quality assurance capabilities.
- Test Planning and Execution:
- Design and manage functional, regression, performance, and load testing to ensure optimal product performance.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand new features, identify test cases, and build test plans.
- Drive the development of automated tests to ensure product stability and efficiency.
- Identify, track, and resolve defects and issues, ensuring proper documentation and communication throughout the process.
- Automation and CI/CD Integration:
- Lead the development and maintenance of automated testing frameworks.
- Ensure integration of automated testing in the CI/CD pipeline to enable faster and more reliable product releases.
- Evaluate and implement tools for test automation and continuous integration.
- Quality Metrics and Reporting:
- Establish and track key quality metrics (e.g., test coverage, defect rates, and release stability) to monitor QA effectiveness.
- Regularly report testing progress, issues, risks, and quality trends to stakeholders and senior management.
- Drive post-release analysis to ensure continuous improvement of the QA process.
- Risk Management:
- Identify potential quality risks during the development process and proactively recommend solutions.
- Work closely with development teams to mitigate risks by addressing critical issues before product releases.

Requirements
Required Skills and Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in software quality assurance, with at least 2+ years in a leadership or management role.
- Proven experience leading QA teams in an Agile environment.
- Strong understanding of both manual and automated testing techniques.
- Experience with test automation tools such as Cypress and Selenium.
- Proficiency in test automation frameworks and scripting languages (e.g., Python or JavaScript).
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI or CircleCI) and integrating automated tests.
- Familiarity with performance testing tools (e.g., JMeter, LoadRunner) and defect tracking tools (e.g., JIRA, Asana).
- Basic knowledge of cloud environments (AWS) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) is a plus.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across teams.
- Leadership and team-building abilities with a focus on mentoring and developing talent.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
- Preferred: Previous experience at a startup or technology company

Base Salary: $100,000 USD - $140,000+ USD per year + Equity
The salary range provided is based on transparent pay guidelines and is an estimate for candidates residing in the San Francisco and New York City metro areas. The actual base salary will vary depending on the candidate's location, relevant experience, skills, qualifications, and other job-related factors. Additionally, this role may include the opportunity to participate in a company stock option plan as part of the total compensation package.
