Founded in 2009, we began in the traditional finance world, as a leader in the FX space. Sensing the seismic shifts taking place in the financial industry, and the disruptive power of cryptocurrencies and blockchain, we made it our mission to make these decentralized trends accessible to every business, from market leaders to small retailers.
We are offering a summer internship on our Legal Team, focused on Litigation, beginning at the start of the intern’s Summer 2024 semester and concluding before the intern’s following semester. As our Litigation Intern, you’ll be mentored by our in-house Associate Counsel and will interact regularly with the VP, Legal.
Ideal candidates are seeking to enhance their understanding of domestic & international court processes, dispute resolution, contract and employment law. The ideal summer intern is a junior or senior who has gained familiarity with basic legal concepts before starting the internship.
This internship is designed to provide real-world experience, which will add professional context to the intern’s specialized academic program for the next academic semester. We offer hands-on training during this internship which will enrich the educational experience, similar to training which the intern would receive through a lab course.
The intern will gain valuable experience by:
- Receiving training from Legal team members on how to manage ongoing cases
- Receiving hands-on training in E Discovery Document Review from members of the Legal team
- Conducting case law research and analysis as well as legal research with guidance from Legal team members
- Conducting discovery review and summary - providing summary timelines for the legal team
- Organizing documents & databases, with support from Legal team members, as necessary to proceed with on-going cases
- Communicating daily with internal Legal team members
- Performing ad hoc tasks as necessary
The ideal intern is familiar with the following programs used in our office:
- Microsoft Office Suite
- Slack and Google apps
The ideal intern already has these required skills:
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Independence, initiative and critical problem solving skills
- Familiarity with case search systems
- Solid proofreading and drafting skills
This is an unpaid internship with academic credit available. This internship requires 20-24 hours per week, and is hybrid remote/on-site in our New York City office. Internships with Shift are conducted without entitlement to a paid job at the conclusion of the internship.
Requirements
Qualified candidates meet the following expectations:
- Understands the necessity of maintaining discretion and confidentiality.
- Will have familiarity with basic legal concepts before starting the internship.
- Knowledge of litigation process and procedure.
- Experience which demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in progress, with a major in pre-law or law (or related fields such as legal studies or business law) a plus.
