Full Job Description
As the Music Director at Church of the City New York, you'll hold a key position in guiding our congregation in worship by equipping and providing resources to our worship team members. Your responsibilities will include supervising all musical elements of our services, such as directing worship teams in service and rehearsals, shaping the musical sound, contributing to song selection and team coordination and cultivating an atmosphere for the band to flow in musical worship.
Essential Duties / Responsibilities:
- Partner with the Worship Director to disciple and develop the Church of the City New York Worship Team.
- Oversee all administration of music and scheduling for services.
- Equip and train all musicians on the worship team.
- Create and run resources such as tracks and charts.
- Adhere to and encompass the qualities and characteristics required of Church of the City New York Staff Members, as defined by the Staff Handbook.
Requirements
- A Christian in submission to the authority of the Scriptures and the Holy Spirit, as evident in lifestyle. Subscribes to and is in full agreement with the Church of the City’s Statement of Faith.
- Demonstrated proficiency in leading congregational worship and directing musical ensembles.
- Proficient in playing one or more musical instruments commonly used in contemporary worship (e.g., piano, guitar).
- Experience with Ableton Live, multitracks, and other current tools for music production and performance.
- Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills, with the ability to recruit, train, and motivate volunteers.
- Knowledge of a wide range of musical styles and genres, with an understanding of how to select music that engages diverse congregations.
Education:
A satisfactory equivalent of education, training and experience in related fields and/or educational disciplines, sufficient to qualify for the requirements of position, including:
- Bachelor's degree in music, worship arts, or a related field preferred, but not required.
- Previous experience serving in a similar role within a church or ministry context is highly desirable.
- Experience with audiovisual technology and sound reinforcement systems preferred.
