Senior Audio Producer - Business and Self-Development Program

You will have both the ability to understand the vision for and take a leadership role in the projects we produce as well as bring fresh thinking to guide their development and creation. Magnificent Noise is a premier podcast production company based in New York City. We create distinctive podcasts and audio content that expand the boundaries of what others think is possible. We are a boutique production house and consulting company, built intentionally on an intimate scale.  In all of our work we form creative alliances, collaborating as trusted partners to make very singular projects. We produce projects that people talk about. Our projects help listeners see the world in a different way. Our work sparks conversations we all need to be having. 

BRIEF DESCRIPTION

This is not an entry level position. It is a senior leadership and editorial position.

This role will start as a full-time temporary role, forecasted to last six months at 32-40 hours per week, though this position may become permanent full time. This position is benefits eligible.

The Senior Producer is a key role on a small team at Magnificent Noise who together produce iconic podcasts designed to be innovative and reach large audiences. Top candidates for this role will demonstrate curiosity, a strong work ethic, exceptional journalistic and storytelling instincts, and exercise creativity in their production technique. The role requires a creative and inclusive approach to storytelling–someone who can shape the vision and execution of ambitious podcast projects. The ideal candidate is a talented leader that others want to follow, as well as a writer/storyteller who has a proven track record for producing high-quality narrative content, innovation, problem-solving, and is experienced working in a deadline-oriented environment. The Senior Producer reliably creates original and enterprising work in every episode and project they produce.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Hold a leadership role on the podcast.
• Lead editorial planning of podcast, including outlining program elements, and selection/booking of contributors and guests.
• Responsible for setting production timelines and running a team that delivers projects on time and on budget.
• Lead the project team to produce and edit interviews and segments.
• Talent management: Coach host and other on-air contributors who are new to podcasting to get the most out of their interview and performance.
• Partner relationship: Work side-by-side with production clients, not treating them as customers to be managed, but deep collaborators and trusted partners.
• Mentor colleagues with grace and a generosity of spirit. 
• Collaborate with other producers and editors at Magnificent Noise and our creative partners to ensure the depth and breadth of Magnificent Noise’s production and storytelling aesthetics and standards. 
• “Think deep” and produce work that needs to exist in the world. 
• Oversee the booking of contributors, guests, and interviews, as well as managing recording logistics, remote studio recordings, and location management.
• Record interviews and ambience at on-location recordings and train staff on recording equipment, proper microphone selection and selection and placement, and how to get “great tape.”
• Edit segments and can edit and manipulate digital audio lay-ups.
• Coordinate all aspects of production, post-production, and program distribution.
• Other duties as assigned.

LOCATION

Our strong preference for this position is for someone in the greater New York area working a hybrid combination of at home, in our Manhattan office, and on-site at with our production partner.

Requirements

NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• At least 5-7+ years of radio/audio production and thorough knowledge of writing and audio production
• Management experience, especially management of creative people doing creative work.
• Deep interest and knowledge in a wide range of subject areas.
• Knowledge of podcasting and digital audio industry.
• Must have a strong understanding of how to operate audio hardware, software, and facilities.
• Demonstrated writing ability.
• Demonstrated digital editing expertise using ProTools audio editing software.
• Ability to work quickly and efficiently under deadline pressure. 
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Thrives in a team-focused environment, and understands how to balance competing priorities from multiple stakeholders.

Benefits

EXPECTED SALARY RANGE

The salary band for a Senior Producer at Magnificent Noise is $130,000 USD to $160,000 USD.

Full time employees are elegible for benefits that include health care and 401k matching.
