Bennett Midland seeks a business strategist with deep experience in financial planning and analysis. The Senior Manager of Business Strategy and Financial Management will conduct research and analysis, develop financial models, and execute on internal operational workstreams to ensure our effectiveness and drive strategic decision-making.

What you will do
The Senior Manager of Business Strategy and Financial Management works in close collaboration with the firm’s partners and leadership team, supervises the Finance and Operations Associates, and directs other team members on relevant project assignments. The Senior Manager of Business Strategy and Financial Management will carry out the following responsibilities:
Business strategy
- Collaborate with the firm’s partners on business strategy, including setting annual financial targets, developing budgets, and strategic priorities.
- Participate in business development meetings, creating strategies and assessing business opportunities that align with sales and revenue targets and the firm’s strategic priorities.
- Manage and execute decisions made around annual and future-looking resource allocations.
- Lead the planning and facilitation of quarterly and year-end finance and strategy meetings with the firm’s partners, including creating agendas, developing financial reports, conducting research, and executing agreed-upon follow-ups.
- Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate the performance of the firm.
- Lead on annual reviews of consultant rates and develop pricing strategies and models to enhance profitability and market competitiveness.
- Review pricing strategies and contract terms to ensure alignment with business goals.
Financial planning and management
- Develop annual budget in QuickBooks and update it monthly with actual revenue and expenses.
- Prepare monthly financial and performance reports that monitor performance against agreed-upon KPIs.
- Create detailed business models and forecasts to support strategic decision-making.
- Monitor cash flow and maintain up-to-date cash flow analysis report.
- Oversee and liaise with Bennett Midland’s accounting firm to manage and process business taxes and ensure accurate revenue and expense reporting.
- Supervise the Administrative Associates in the following areas of work:
- Managing timekeeping records;
- Monthly invoicing, including working with consulting teams to determine appropriate invoicing time and corresponding materials;
- Tracking payables, receivables, and bill payments
- Processing bill payments; and
- Managing Expensify.
Human Resources
- Manage the firm’s payroll, 401(k), and benefits programs and systems, including bi-weekly deposits, working closely with the firm’s PEO.
- Manage the annual review of the firm’s benefit offerings, working with the benefits providers and creating analyses of options for review by the Executive Team.
- Develop staff-wide communications for employees regarding benefits programs, 401(k), time off, office closures, etc.
- Oversee the onboarding process for new employees (e.g., employee letters, coordinating start days, establishing benefits and payroll, etc.).
- Coordinate the annual review and updating of the firm’s Employee Handbook.
Stay up to date with Federal and New York State HR laws and regulations and ensure the firm adopts best practice policies.
Requirements
Who you are
You are an energetic, engaged professional with at least five years of experience in financial management and analysis. You are a strategic thinker who wants to contribute to the business strategy and growth of a civic-focused small business. Other qualifications include:
- An undergraduate degree in finance, administration, business, or related field, preferred;
- Previous experience in supervisory roles and in managing complex workstreams;
- Meticulous attention to detail and superior organizational skills;
- Excellent time management skills, ability to multi-task, and skill for managing and prioritizing competing demands;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- A commitment to a collegial workplace; and
- Proficiency in QuickBooks, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word and Outlook.

Salary
The salary range for this position is $121,000 – 165,000 with the potential for an annual performance-based bonus. Our salary structure is designed to be in line with that of social impact organizations, reflecting our dedication to social impact work. This is distinct from management consultancies, which predominantly cater to commercial clients.

Employment at Bennett Midland is contingent on the candidate having the requisite authorization to live and work in the United States.
Please note that we are currently operating in a hybrid work environment, including in-person client meetings and some travel. We currently require in-office presence at our office in Chelsea, Manhattan, a minimum of twice a week.
