Job Summary
The Natural Gas Business Unit (NGBU) Pipeline and Station Support Engineering group provides engineering services to support capital project work and pipeline operations through the full 5 state service area (NC, SC, TN, OH, KY). The team is comprised of individuals who provide one of several different subject matter expert functions (controls and electrical design, corrosion engineering, civil/structural engineering). The team provides engineering services for capital projects that are initiated and managed by either Major Projects or Field Operations. Engineers are assigned as needed, based upon their area of expertise, to multi-disciplined project groups for numerous, concurrent projects.
Responsibilities include ensuring that new station designs provide an electrical and control plan that accomplishes the scope of the project and adheres to NGBU standards. A Controls Engineer will typically be a project team member for multiple concurrent projects. Gas plant projects may range from equipment modification or replacement to complete plant construction or decommissioning.
Control equipment includes, but is not limited to meters, correctors, pressure and temperature transmitters, heater controllers, control valves, odorizers, and remote terminal units/programmable logic controllers (RTU/PLC). Pipeline station types include gas supplier receipt stations, regulator stations, pipeline interconnects, and automated main line valves (MLV). The team also manages the design and delivery of station control panels for these projects (~65 per year).
Responsibilities & Duties
- Engineering support of both Capital and O&M projects for field pipeline stations
- Participate in corporate initiatives and special projects.
- Other engineering duties as needed by the NGBU.
Requirements
- Graduation from a four-year college or university with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program or state registration as a Professional Engineer.
- Minimum of 6 years of engineering experience or 5 years of engineering experience with state registration as a Professional Engineer.
- Proficient in engineering theories and principles.
- Proficient in practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations and preparing and presenting recommendations.
Desired Qualifications
- Electrical & instrumentation troubleshooting experience.
- Familiarity with P&ID and electrical schematics.
- Electrical power distribution & controls experience.
- PLC or RTU programming experience.
- Natural gas or energy industry engineering experience.
- Understanding of basic principles of project management.
- Passing grade on the Engineering Fundamentals Exam with intention to achieve registration as a Professional Engineer.
