The Safety and Utility Damage Prevention Coordinator & Trainer is responsible for overseeing safety protocols and utility damage prevention practices. This role involves the coordination of safety initiatives, implementing utility damage prevention measures, and delivering effective training programs to staff and contractors. The coordinator will ensure compliance with local and federal regulations while fostering a culture of safety and accountability.
Requirements
1. Safety Coordination:
• Develop, implement, and monitor company-wide safety policies and procedures.
• Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments to identify hazards and recommend corrective actions.
• Serve as a safety expert and point of contact for employees and management on all safety-related matters.
• Investigate accidents and incidents to determine causes and identify preventive measures.
• Maintain safety records and prepare reports for management and regulatory authorities.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA, state, and local regulations.
• Monitor and enforce company wide safe driving
2. Utility Damage Prevention:
• Implement and maintain best practices for preventing utility damages during excavation, construction, and maintenance projects.
• Collaborate with all stake holders including company management, contractors, utilities, locators, and all others to ensure proper protocols are followed.
• Conduct site visits to verify adherence to damage prevention guidelines and ensure the use of proper tools and procedures.
• Lead investigations into utility damages and near-miss incidents, providing recommendations for corrective actions and future prevention.
• Stay updated on the latest technologies and regulations related to utility damage prevention.
• Monitor damage prevention statistics and recommend strategies to improve damage prevention
3. Training & Development:
• Develop and deliver safety training programs for employees, contractors, and field workers on topics such as hazard recognition, excavation safety, and equipment operation.
• Conduct utility damage prevention training and ensure all relevant personnel are certified in the proper procedures.
• Create and maintain training materials, including manuals, presentations, and online modules.
• Track employee participation in training programs and maintain training records in compliance with company policies.
• Foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement related to safety and utility damage prevention.
• Provide hands-on coaching and mentoring to field staff to reinforce safe work practices.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in safety coordination, utility damage prevention, or a similar role.
• 3+ years of training experience
• Certification in safety programs such as OSHA, CPR/First Aid, or related credentials (preferred).
• OSHA 30 certification
• Knowledge of federal, state, and local safety and utility regulations.
• Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to develop and deliver effective training programs.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and safety management software.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites.
