Nottingham Spirk is a Cleveland, Ohio-based, design services consultancy. We are seeking to add an Industrial Designer to our growing team.

Summary
The Industrial Designer is expected to have a high level of design experience, knowledge, and technical skill sets. The Industrial Designer’s primary responsibilities include project-related research, initial and refined concept development, generation of presentation-ready content and full support of the Design Lead. In addition, the Industrial Designer must possess the ability to work independently to solve more complex problems and guide multiple projects forward in an efficient & effective manner.
Industrial Designer assignments may consist of:
· Working both independently and collaboratively with Project Leads on small to large projects. (Concept Generation in 2D/3D, assist in creating presentations)
· Design-relevant research activities to facilitate and help guide Ideation and Concept Development. In addition, preparing cohesive presentations and reports in this area.
· Procurement of samples and materials for Design-related project reference
· Attending on-site Focus Groups to inform the Design Team and Process
Essential Functions
· Ability to perform the following responsibilities: ideation, sketching (by-hand and digital), 3D modeling, rendering, presentation, and general model-making.
· Advanced technical ability, including communication, problem-solving skills, and design execution on multiple programs simultaneously.
· Aptitude for bringing a creative, yet realistic, responsible approach to all aspects of the design process including advanced problem-solving skills with a thorough understanding of form and function development.
· Work in a cross-functional team environment to understand design parameters within defined product categories for new product development.
· Work collaboratively with Insights teams to create stimuli and interpret research findings into product concepts and/or design details.
· Ability to interact with Engineering, Prototyping, and Consumer Insights Teams to collaborate, understand and move intermediate program initiatives forward.
· Capability of applying knowledge, research, understanding, and categorization of current and competitive product function, features, and attributes.
· Effectively manages change, shifts gears comfortably, and can decide and act without having the total picture.
· Provides ongoing support to project leads in concept development, refinement, and final presentations.
· Attends and participates in both internal and client team meetings, as required.
· Understand, support, and align all actions and professional practices to the firms: mission, vision, and values.
Hybrid Schedule
This role is eligible for up to one day a week working from home. The remaining four days are working from the office in Cleveland.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
· 3-5 years of relevant career experience. (Corporate, Consulting, and Freelance are all considered acceptable backgrounds).
· Proficiency in design-specific software --Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Figma, and others.
· High proficiency in 3D Surface Modeling and/or Solid Modeling CAD software – such as Alias, Rhino, SolidWorks, Inventor, Fusion360, or CREO.
· High proficiency in CAD rendering software; specifically, KeyShot.
· Good understanding of materials, mechanisms, and manufacturing processes.
· Excellent communication skills, paired with ability to present and convey thought process to NS internal Team members, as well as in occasional client-facing situations.
· High proficiency in structuring and creation of presentation slide decks with PowerPoint, InDesign, or similar
· Good understanding and comfort level with materials, tools, and methods involved in mock-ups, rough model-making, and assisting in prototype fabrication.
Education Requirements
Mandatory:
· BFA degree in Industrial Design or related technical disciplines.
Desired:
· BFA degree as stated above plus Minor Degree in Fine Arts, Graphic Arts, Engineering or related Creative or Technical Field
· Master’s degree in a relevant design-related major.

· Limited travel
