Position Summary: The Licensed Physical Therapy Assistant performs physical therapy treatment and adaptive living assistance to individuals in an ICFIID setting, under the clinical supervision of a Licensed Physical Therapist and the Director of Clinical Operations.
Essential Functions:
- Implements programs as prescribed by health care providers and confers with Licensed Physical Therapists or others to discuss and evaluate client information for planning, modifying and coordinating treatment. Instructs, motivates, safeguards and assists clients practicing exercises and functional activities, under direction of medical staff. Arranges physical therapy assessments.
- Administers active and passive manual therapeutic exercises and therapeutic massage. Observes client during treatment to compile and evaluate data on clients' responses and progress and reports data to the physical therapist. Measures client's range-of-joint motion, body parts and vital signs to determine effect of treatments and/or client need for treatment. Trains clients and staff to use orthopedic braces, prostheses or supportive devices. Monitors use of orthopedic braces and prostheses. Monitors use of supportive devices and adjusts as needed.
- Trains staff in proper use of equipment and therapies.
- Maintains and repairs supportive devices. Ensures clients obtain prescribed equipment.
- Participates in conferences and other meetings with parents, guardians and/or staff regarding client progress. Provides input as needed in the IP process of each client regarding medical, physical and emotional status, progress, needs; as well as recommended goals and objectives in these areas.

§ Performs all other duties as assigned.
Bona-fide Occupationally Required Competencies and Credentials:
- Licensed Physical Therapy Assistant Certification in the state of Ohio with 1year of experience in the field of developmental disabilities.
- Displays knowledge of Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, Ohio Department of Health and Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities regulations.
- Must obtain and maintain certification CPR, First Aid, Crisis Management and other courses as required.
- Must have basic computer and word processing skills.
- Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Must have a valid Ohio Driver’s License, good driving record and carry the proper liability insurance amounts required by the Society.
Location: As assigned
Travel: Meetings and site visits within the agency; meetings and seminars outside of the agency.
Reports to: Director of Clinical Operations
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Supervises: N/A
Works with: individuals, guardians, families, external providers, medical specialists, department directors and administrative support staff, maintenance department, human resource representative, program and site management.
Physical Demands/Work Environment: The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Physical demands: While performing duties of the job, employee is required to stand, walk, sit, drive, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear. Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Work environment: The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Based on results of the Hazard Assessment for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), PPE may be required as outlined in the Infection Prevention and Control Manual and/or the Covid-19 Safety Preparedness and Response Plan. Required PPE may include: gloves, masks, gowns, goggles, face shields and/or N95 respirators.
