Full Job Description
The Motor Controls Engineer will report to Controls Business Unit Manager and will be responsible for the design of Industrial Controls Panels, including preparation of electrical drawings, bills of materials, and quotations of electrical equipment in the industrial, agricultural, and domestic water well market. This position is also responsible for communication with customers, engineers, and sales staff regarding system requirements and project specifications.

Essential Functions:
- Production of detailed designs and drawings, specifications, data, calculations, and submittals for MLS’ motor controls products
- Capture and review electrical design requirements and features
- Confers with customers and engineers to assess project scope, equipment needs, and system requirements
- Advise customers on how best to design and configure products to achieve optimal results
- Provide post-sales technical support directly to customers and ensure proper follow-up to resolve issues
- Prepares estimates and bids for customer projects
- Generates specifications and technical drawings ensuring that system function and installation conform to customer requirements
- Creates Bill of Materials for purchase of materials or equipment
- Work with suppliers and vendors to source and validate parts and components
- Diagnoses functional inadequacies to determine root causes and develop corrective action steps
- Testing/troubleshooting complex electrical control panels in collaboration with Test Technicians and Engineers
- Regulatory compliance adherence – UL508A, UL698, others.
- Maintain and update CAD libraries, databases, and production systems
- Create, manage, and drive Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) to completion
- Design for manufacturing
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
Experience Required:
- Three or more years of experience as an electrical controls designer or application specialist.
- Fluent knowledge of AutoCAD is required
- Experience with parametric modeling
- Advanced knowledge of Variable Frequency Drives (VFD), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), and SCADA Systems
- Experience with technical management of projects and execution
- Familiarity with UL508A and/or NEC codes is a plus
- Intermediate level knowledge of Microsoft Office suite

Education Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required, Electrical or Mechanical preferred
- UL 508A Manufacturer Technical Representative (MTR) certification is a preferred
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to remain at a stationary position 50% of the time
- Ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies weighing up to 20 pounds
- Ability to work overtime
Work Environment:
- Ability to remain at a stationary position 50% of the time
- This position requires onsite attendance and is not eligible for telework
