Position: NAV Field Organizer
Department: Movement Building
Supervisor: Field and Organizing Manager
Hourly Rate: $22.00 - $26.00 an hour
Position & Status: temporary, part-time, non-exempt
Allowances: Transportation and Telecommunications Allowances
Estimated Start Date: August 5, 2024
Term of employment: August 5, 2024 - September 30, 2024
Hours: 26-30 hours per week; evenings and weekends
Location: Field training will take place at the Imagine Black office in Portland. Field canvassing efforts will primarily occur in Clackamas County, OR, with the possibility of extended hours in neighboring counties.
Physical/Cognitive Details: Ability to walk for extended periods and navigate residential neighborhoods, occasionally encountering stairs and uneven terrain. Must possess sufficient cognitive ability to accurately record data and communicate effectively with residents.
POSITION SUMMARY
Imagine Black is launching a Non-Affiliated Voter (NAV) contact program for the November 2024 Election. This position aims to support the campaign goals by connecting with non-affiliated voters, enhancing understanding of issues affecting Clackamas, and promoting non-partisan voter turnout in the fall. This temporary part-time role entails engaging voters, identifying key issues, and collaborating to achieve contact objectives.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform door-to-door canvassing to voters utilizing MiniVan on your smartphone.
- Track all required information in MiniVan and report results daily.
- Participate in canvass trainings and staff meetings with the Field and Organizing Manager.
- Report and document any issues you may have while canvassing.
- Meet daily and weekly canvassing goals.

Requirements
REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Passion for civic engagement and strategies to enhance community empowerment.
- Commitment to Imagine Black’s mission and vision, including electoral organizing, advocacy, and community mobilization.
- Proficiency in computer skills necessary for job duties.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
- Demonstrated multicultural competence, including awareness, knowledge, and skills for meaningful interactions with culturally different individuals.
- Reliable transportation for commuting to work and job-related travel.
- Ability and willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions (heat, rain, cold).
- Strong public speaking abilities.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Availability to work flexible shifts of 4 to 6 hours, involving prolonged periods of walking and standing.
- Capability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Effective time management skills to achieve objectives within designated timelines.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bi- or multi-lingual proficiency (Arabic, Amharic, Swahili, and Somali-speaking candidates are encouraged to apply).
- Personal experience with issues affecting the Black community, particularly within Oregon.
- Familiarity with MiniVAN applications or similar systems.
- Additional proficiency in computer skills and adaptability to learn new systems as required.
