Full Job Description
The Product Repair Specialist is responsible for performing repair, diagnostics and failure analysis on Customer Service Return units or Production units. The primary focus is pixel-level repair of LEDs, using soldering techniques. The “PRS” will also assist with other production needs, although primary responsibility will be for LED repair.
Essential Functions:
- Provide post-installation LED repair services for LED customers in the Repair Depot as needed
- Maintain a high level of attention to detail
- Ensure quality by following manufacturing process instructions in order to repair LEDs correctly and minimize product waste
- Effectively communicate equipment and process information to others, using both oral and written means
- Suggest improvements to process or product to ensure consistent results, reduced costs, and increased efficiency
- Use judgment and initiative to troubleshoot problems and provide timely solutions to maintain the continuity of product flow
- Interface with Manufacturing and Repair Depot personnel, Manufacturing, Product and Quality Engineers to resolve technical issues
- Recognize, document and alert appropriate personnel of trends seen in production line failures and Customer Service repairs
Secondary Functions:
- Provide post-installation LED repair services for LED customers in the field as needed
- Identify components and spare parts that need to be on-hand to support diagnostic and repair work
- Participate in improvement projects, recommend and implement process improvements
- Provide on the job training to others
- Prepare technical reports summarizing findings and recommending solutions to technical problems
- Assist in the selection and set-up of specialized test equipment
- Update work instructions / procedures
Requirements
Specific Job Skills, Education & Experience:
- Comfortable using standard hand soldering tools such as fine pitch tweezers.
- Ability to successfully remove and install SMD LEDs with fine pitch as small as 0.9mm, without burning / damaging the adjacent LED or board
- Ability to operate a temperature controlled soldering iron
- Ability to operate a hot air De/Solder rework station with adjustable air flow, and with temperature ranging from 100 to 500 degrees.
- Demonstrated ability to work from technical manuals, specifications, drawings, diagrams, schematics, written and verbal instructions
- Understanding of display technology and diagnostic ability a plus
- Demonstrated ability to work well individually and within a team, have strong problem solving and communication skills and be a highly motivated self-starter with the ability to shift priorities as needed
- Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, Internet, and email
- Experience working in a Customer Service Repair Depot and using databases a plus
Other:
- Must be able to lift flat panels, computer and production equipment and material weighing approximately 50 pounds
- Some lifting and moving material with weight over 50 pounds is required but will use “buddy-system”
- Must be available for travel about 25% of the time.
- Must hold a valid driver's license with reliable vehicle
- Ability to stand or sit for a long period of time
