Full Job Description
The Common Market, a nonprofit regional food distributor on a mission to connect urban communities with local food from sustainable family farms, is seeking an Executive Director for their Mid-Atlantic food hub. The Executive Director will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Mid-Atlantic food hub, ensuring its financial sustainability, and developing and maintaining relationships with their customers and farmers. The Common Market currently has hubs in four regions: Mid-Atlantic, Southeast, Texas, and Great Lakes. The Mid-Atlantic Food Hub operates independently, managing its own infrastructure and local staff, and "The Commons," the organization's centralized location, provides support across the organization.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute strategies to ensure the financial sustainability of the Mid-Atlantic food hub
- Oversee the daily operations of the Mid-Atlantic food hub and manage its infrastructure and local staff
- Develop and maintain relationships with customers and suppliers, including farmers and ranchers who are at the forefront of creating an equitable and resilient food system
- Lead and manage a diverse and inclusive team, promoting a culture of collaboration and accountability
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and policies, including food safety, labor laws, and environmental regulations
- Collaborate with other organizations and stakeholders to build strong and resilient regional food systems
- Represent The Common Market and the Mid-Atlantic food hub to external stakeholders, including funders, policymakers, and the media
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in nonprofit management, business administration, or a related field
- At least 7 years of experience in nonprofit management, food systems, or a related field
- Strong financial management skills, including budgeting and forecasting
- Experience developing and implementing strategies to achieve organizational goals
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and collaborate with diverse stakeholders
- Strong leadership skills, with the ability to lead, manage, and inspire a team
- Knowledge of and/or experience with sustainable agriculture and local food systems
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
