We’re looking for a dynamic, organized, and compassionate individual to join our team as a Veterinary Blood Bank Coordinator. This hybrid position will also work as a veterinary technician supporting our specialty services, making it a unique opportunity for someone who enjoys a blend of hands-on and administrative responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
Position Overview:
As the Veterinary Blood Bank Coordinator, you’ll be responsible for overseeing our hospital’s blood bank program, ensuring safe and efficient collection, storage, and distribution of blood products. You’ll be responsible for organizing a blood donor schedule and working closely with the veterinary team to ensure the hospital is fully stocked with the necessary supplies and blood for patients in need. In addition to your role with the blood bank, you’ll provide support to our specialty services team as a technician, assisting the specialists with appointments, procedures, and client communications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the veterinary blood bank, including donor recruitment, scheduling, and blood collection.
- Monitor inventory levels and ensure that blood products are stored and handled properly.
- Coordinate with veterinarians and technicians to fulfill blood product requests for emergency and specialty cases.
- Educate and communicate with clients regarding blood donation and its importance in veterinary medicine.
- Assist with the development and implementation of protocols and guidelines for the blood bank program.
- Work across the specialty departments including oncology, internal medicine, and surgery.
- Assist the specialty teams in scheduling appointments, client follow-ups, and patient care coordination.
- Collaborate with veterinary staff to ensure that all specialty service departments run smoothly and efficiently.
- Participate in staff training and continuing education to stay current with blood bank and specialty service best practices.
Requirements
- Veterinary technician with exceptional venipuncture skills and a minimum of 2 years vet tech experience required.
- Credentialed veterinary technician preferred but not required.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Experience with blood bank programs, transfusion medicine, or specialty veterinary care is a plus.
- Compassionate and client-focused, with a passion for animal welfare.
