The starting rate of pay is $25.53 (min) to $32.97 (mid) per hour.

Requirements
General Definition of Work
Performs intermediate technical work involving the enforcement of adopted municipal ordinances, codes, regulations, and policies; prepares and maintains files concerning findings, reports, notices and correspondence related to investigative and enforcement actions and planning activities, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Assistant Community Development Director.

Essential Functions
- Administer and enforce the adopted property maintenance code and associated sections of the Farragut Municipal Code.
- Enforces the provisions of the sign ordinance and zoning ordinance and assist in the monitoring of construction sites for compliance with the stormwater, sinkhole, and tree protection ordinances.
- Administer the Solution Center (citizen requests) aspect of the Community Development Department.
- Assist the department’s Administrative Assistant staff in all aspects of their duties and serve as back up when a staff member is out of the office.
- Assist the planning staff in preparation of packets, preparation of meetings and workshops, filing, and file/project management and organization.
- Work actively in the community to develop citizen groups, particularly in subdivisions with no homeowner’s associations, to assist in the administration of property maintenance.
- Work with the Building Official, Codes Inspectors, and Stormwater Coordinator to identify non-permitted construction activities, home occupations, garage sales, flea markets, peddlers and temporary vendors.
- Coordinate efforts with other Town employees, departments and outside agencies, as necessary, to ensure efficiency and effectiveness of code enforcement activities throughout the Town.
- Issue citations for compliance violations when appropriate.
- Prepare case files including photographs; testifies at administrative hearings and in court as required; prepares and provides copies of case file documents for administrative hearing participants and court officials.
- Researches and collects information in association with writing ordinances for planning and land use.
- Assists with preparing planning reports and maintains files and records.
- Initiates, drafts, obtains approval of and implements special projects, as requested.
- Perform all other duties as assigned or as apparent.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
General knowledge of municipal ordinances, codes and regulations applicable to public nuisances and sanitation; general knowledge of the principles and practices of building construction and environmental sanitation; thorough knowledge in operating standard office equipment and associated software; ability to interpret and enforce municipal ordinances, codes and regulations tactfully, firmly and impartially; ability to make technical inspections and to arrive at independent decisions on the basis of such inspections; ability to make arithmetic computations; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with contractors, public officials, associates and the general public; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in written form.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or GED and proficient computer skills with familiarity using the Microsoft Office software suite. Preference will be given to candidates with a proven record of excellent communication skills and customer service. Prior codes/zoning enforcement is also a plus.
Physical Requirements
This work requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 25 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and climbing or balancing, frequent standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling and reaching with hands and arms and occasionally requires sitting, pushing or pulling and lifting; work requires close vision, distance vision, ability to adjust focus, depth perception and peripheral vision; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to other accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using measuring devices, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; worker is regularly exposure to outdoor weather conditions and exposure to the risk of electrical shock, occasionally working in high, precarious places, exposure to extreme cold (non-weather) and exposure to extreme heat (non-weather) and occasionally requires wet, humid conditions (non-weather), working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles and exposure to vibration; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office with typewriters and/or computer printers, light traffic).
Special Requirements
Obtain ICC/AACE Property Maintenance and Housing Inspector certification within one year of hire.
Obtain ICC/AACE Zoning Inspector certification within one year of hire.
Possession of an appropriate driver's license valid in the State of Tennessee.
ICC Building Code Inspector(s) certifications preferred.
AACE Certified Code Enforcement Officer certification preferred.
