Full Job Description
- Act as "Manager on Duty" in the absence of the Director.
- Review and screen applicants, conduct interviews with the Director or staff as appropriate, and recommend final candidate(s) to the Director for approval before hiring.
- Supervisor of circulation staff, including scheduling, approving time off and resolving all patron issues.
- Train all new staff, provide ongoing training, and ensure essential information reaches desk staff.
- Assign work to staff and volunteers.
- Plans and facilitates regular staff meetings
- Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for circulation processes and other regular tasks to facilitate new staff training.
- Recruit and manage library volunteers.
- Report weekly to the Director.
- Execute priorities set by the Director.
- Maintain regular communication with the Director to enhance patron service, coverage, and staff training.
- Continuously assess services, gather data, and propose new initiatives and improvements in weekly meetings.
- Independently open and close the library, including cash handling.
- Ensure the service desk is consistently staffed through effective communication.
- Enforce the Library’s Code of Conduct and uphold legal, procedural, and policy requirements, including patron privacy.
- Delegate tasks and projects to desk staff and volunteers.
- Manage IT tickets through the SpiceWorks system.
- Serve as a desk staff member as needed (maximum 10 hours per week).
- Collection maintenance including ILL
Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree
- Two years of customer service and supervisory experience preferred
- Have the ability to work as part of a team and the ability to motivate and engage others
- Ability to evaluate trends and talent, analyze and document data, and prepare recommendations based upon information collected
- Excellent writing and editing skills
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work effectively with diverse teams
- Ability to work effectively under pressure; excellent organizational skills, time management efficiency, and careful attention to detail
- Experience and confidence with technology including word processing, spreadsheets, PCs/Apple products, email and more
- A positive, optimistic, and supportive attitude is essential to the position
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Requires stooping, bending, stretching, pushing cartloads of books, supplies, etc. up to 40 lbs
- Occasionally lift, push/pull, hold/carry of items weighing up to twenty-five (25) pounds such as files, books, and other materials.
- TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Works primarily in a public library environment
