For that reason we’re seeking a Director of Brand Marketing.
This role is responsible for driving revenue through brand awareness, acquisition, and retention. You understand that the greatest value to any business is their marketing and innovation. The ideal candidate for this role is highly experienced in the entire customer journey, brand and storytelling, FMCG, and the full marketing mix across the digital and physical space. You are excited to work at a small business and know this means you will be on the tools and in the weeds. You understand that if you don’t do it or manage the project fully, it won’t get done. You are able to deliver day-to-day multifunctional brand marketing tactics and execution to bring Yellowbird to the top of the market. You will be responsible for the generation of revenue through the creation and distribution of efficient and effective processes, systems, and brand marketing assets across specific channels with clear KPIs. You have excellent leadership, tactical planning, and creative execution skills that help improve mental availability and positive experiences for current and future Yellowbird customers. You will be responsible for hiring and leading a high-performing internal team, ensuring everyone is working together to meet all brand marketing goals and objectives and ensure our brand efforts are cohesive, consistent, and always aligned with the Yellowbird ethos.
Requirements
Here are the things we will hire you to do:
- Market Research → track customer and retail trends to help assess and increase sales
- Set a Strong Foundation → you are on the platforms, getting into the details of the full customer experience to understand how each platform is set up, automated, and maintained, and can identify areas for improvement in order to set a solid foundation to build upon
- Brand Alignment → you're able to maintain an exhaustive understanding of Yellowbird's products, brand essence, and sales channels, ensuring all customer interactions are in harmony with our brand ethos
- Marketing Campaigns → you're able to develop and execute marketing campaigns aligned with our brand strategy and ethos to achieve company goals—this will include writing ad copy and scripts, sketching storyboards or ad mockups, and any additional creative planning work needed to execute an effective campaign
- Brand Strategy → you understand our current brand strategy and how to tactically execute on this day-to-day to ensure the Yellowbird message is consistent and resonates with our target audience
- Collaborating With Cross-Functional Teams → you work closely with the brand marketing, sales, finance, and production teams to ensure seamless communication and coherence to the Yellowbird promise; you're willing to step in and help when and where needed, you are not above hard work
- Quality Assurance → regularly audit all brand marketing and sales channels, identifying areas for enhancing/improving distinctive brand assets, implementing necessary changes to elevate the overall customer experience
- Maintaining Relationships With Company Stakeholders → develop relationships with customers, internal teams, vendors, and other key people
- Manage The Marketing Budget → manage the marketing budget and track KPIs
- Brand Positioning → reinforce and reiterate the Yellowbird brand position in the market through always-on creative execution and distribution of brand assets across effective channels to maximize reach for our target audience
- Training → provide regular training sessions and support to internal and external team members to ensure a consistent and high-quality customer experience across all touch points
- Process Improvement → continually evaluate and refine brand asset production processes to optimize efficiency and the customer experience
- Stay Updated → stay updated on the latest trends and tools in brand marketing, platforms, and distribution of brand assets to ensure Yellowbird is always a step ahead
- Team Leadership → manage brand marketing teams, providing clear KPIs, helpful guidance, and priority setting

- Strategic Thinking & Execution → Ability to develop and execute the Yellowbird experience creatively, effectively, and across multiple channels
- Channel Specific Experiences → You are a total nerd about effective platforms and love to immerse yourself in the details of how to best optimize each. You maintain comprehensive knowledge of platforms and channels where Yellowbird brand and products exist and ensure the successful integration and execution of Yellowbird assets across each.
- Copywriting and Storyboarding → You know the value of a great story and also know that no one can tell the Yellowbird better story better than the Yellowbird team. You have strong storytelling abilities and truly enjoy putting that to work—identifying, ideating solutions for, and executing on copywriting, scripting and storyboarding in order to improve current brand assets across different channels through engaging brand storytelling and product use case
- Team Collaboration & Positive Attitude → You're a proactive team player with a positive, problem-solving mindset with initiative to understand the internal team environment and work collaboratively
- Digital Proficiency → Comfort and familiarity with modern digital tools and platforms, including digital retail shelves and shopper marketing platforms, Shopify, Klaviyo, Meta, TikTok, and other digital marketing tools.
- Tech-Savviness → Familiarity with customer service software, CRM systems, and analytics tools
- Problem-Solving Skills → The ability to think on one's feet and provide solutions to brand, product, and marketing issues that align with our values
- Empathy → A genuine ability to understand and cater to the emotions and needs of the Yellowbird customer
- Project Management → Experience in managing creative/brand projects and working cross-functionally with different departments/team to creative and distribute an effective brand asset
- Continuous Learning → Dedication to personal growth and development in the realm of brand marketing and related areas
- Leadership Skills → You will be leading and managing internal and external teams, the ability to guide and influence others to uphold the Yellowbird brand standards is vital
- Business Financial Literacy → You will be responsible for driving revenue through strategic, effective, and on-brand marketing efforts that may not always have clear sales attribution; understanding the full marketing mix and how this works within the business is crucial
Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in a Brand Marketing role at an FMCG company (fast moving consumer packaged goods)
- Proven portfolio of work, must include your own copywriting and creative work, if there was a team involved, please credit the work they did along with the work you did
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in practical experience
- Problem solving and analytical—you’re intellectually curious with a make it happen mindset
- ERP & Spreadsheet Proficient
- 2+ years experience in Shopify
- 2+ years experience in Klaviyo, MailChimp or other robust email marketing platforms
- Experience working collaboratively with other departments — Brand, Sales, Finance, Production, Community Management, etc.
- Flexible to changing priorities and comfortable thriving in an office, production, and field event environment
- Excellent time management, organizational skills, and written and verbal communication
- Ability to multitask and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment with changing demands and priorities
- Willingness to accept new responsibilities and challenges, and demonstrate calmness under pressure—you’re not afraid or hesitant to roll up your sleeves and get things done
